Warning : Beware duct tape failure !!

I know this is common knowledge but, looks like the damn duct tape losses it adhesive backing when it gets warm and dry, or a little wet, or just turns gooey..

So, of coarse I used it to put up my mylar and that was a mistake !!
I used it to secure my light traps to the rear of my cabinet and that was a mistake !!

Ah, say la vie. no real harm just a pain having to do things twice...

So let's try a thread for duct tape disscussions...


Tell us your stories and fixes...I ended up using aluminum tape and hot glue..

Ideas welcomed...

i take cardboard panels and spray them with an adhesive then lay the mylar on top

Tuck Tape simply the best. May not be reflective buts sticks forever.

Tuck tape, never heard of it...where do you get it? Expensive?

It actually is pretty expensive like $8 a roll. It used for construction to seal vapor barrier. Also on the outside of houses around windows and barrier.
Very durable to all condition. My buddy hasn't put siding on his house yet so all the barrier and tuck tape has been exposed for 2 winters now with nothing but a little sun bleaching.
I live in Canada to so it goes through its temps/humidity and never fails.

You can probable get at any building center.
Lowe's, Home Depot probably even Wal Mart but i'd check a building center of some sort 1st.

After searching up Tuck Tape it appears that its mostly sold in Canada

most all cloth tape is only temp. the elements will eat it up fast.

I just recently hung my mylar and i used gorilla tape, which is somewhat like duct tape but on steroids. I will be interested in seeing how it holds up, though i can immediately staple where the duct tape is to sort it out...

I use this "foil" tape. Its' a reflective aluminum looking tape. It's stickier than duct tape, is meant for repairing metal, but is dam near indestructible and holds well (especially anything remotely metallic). Pretty sure all the home improvement stores carry this stuff near the hvac duct stuff...It's about the same price as duct tape too, or at least where i get it, it is.

that foil tape loses its stick real fast I've found, but maybe you have a better brand. it also tears too easily for my tastes. Gorilla tape + staple gun do the trick for me, I have a 10lb fan supported with a gorilla tape cradle for over a month now

Do you remember what brand the foil tape was? Stuff i've seen used lasted for over a year as was still sticky enough to almost ruin drywall and a bunch of other stuff when it was removed during an emergency...

I definitely recommend the duct tape/staple combo. Use the tape as you normally would, then staple it down that way when/if it loses its stickiness, its basically a cloth strap attached with staples.

I would like to add that foil tape comes in many grades. I have purchased foil tape for 5 dollars and up to 20, you get what you pay for...... I use cheaper stuff for the less stressed applications, and use the better stuff for the critical applications....
Gorilla tape is great, beware of ruining the surface you apply it to (painted walls etc.)

My personal favorite way to hang panda is with trim material. I generally buy the non-wood white plasticy(is very flexible) amd using a staple gun or finishing nails.. And of course gorilla tape or whide duct tape to keep everything clean looking.. Ideally, i would purchase 1" styrofoam sheets (4'X8') and use adhesive to apply the panda. This method would be removeable, protect surfaces, and portable, rather than buy new panda all the time.

I must have bought some descent tape...foil is holding well and is nice and thick like metal....but the Tuct tape sounds amazing!!
