If it happens in a very pot friendly place (austin, texas) , who knows where else it could be happening... you can read the emails between the pig.. i mean cops and the electric company at the end of the email..

hopefully this gets ruled unconstitutional in the courts.. we shall see.

in the meantime just be careful, cut costs where you can.. you can never be too careful

and no i am not joking if you read the article you will see that it happens and is a real occurrence..

in austin, which is known as the live music capital of the world, best weed in texas, hosts many huge music venues like sxsw, marley fest, acl etc.. it also has some of the loosest laws regarding pot in texas.. you can have up to two ounces in travis county and it is up to the officers discretion whether to give you a ticket or take you in.. either way it is a misdemeanor and you get a ticket most of the time.

in the future please keep your assumptions to yourself

Probably will not hold up in court, Austin pot friendly!!?? Hardly Texas has some pretty archaic pot laws

texas does but austin is the most pot friendly place in the area, i know i lived there for years.. you can smoke on the streets and in any festival and cops dont give you a hard time about it..

and i hope it does not hold up in court or at the very least they should make it illegal for private companies and gov. to work together..

Austin is the Berkeley of the south. I really do not like Texas. I have an Ex wife there and it is generally a shit hole. Austin is an island paradise in a sea of cow crap.

dude im from florida -- 7th generation floridian acctually. i just moved to austin 3 months ago cause its one of the greatest cities in america. haven't really been anywhere else in texas -- heard i dont really wanna go. i seriously just got back 30 min ago from hang with a buddy and grabbin some of the best weed ive seen here yet. but its acctually hash plant from cali so its not even grown here. but i have seen some nice home grown shit.

as for smoking everywhere. THEY DO. on halloween the everybody was smoking on the street. i coulnt walk down the road with out smelling it. and i was upset that i left mine in the car cause i didnt think it would fly. and the cops were standing around in groups not giving a fuck -- basicly there just to break up fights and shit, not my sweet mary jane.

and holy shit that has to be illegal! they are obtaining peoples passwords and accessing their information online to narrow down growing suspects? go to the fucking east side of austin where nobody but crack heads and alcoholics go!

really this is so true our country is going to shit its no longer innocent until proven guilty you are guilty until u prove inocents or find a cops mistake

uh oh, i just started, and before i even began running grow equipment (600w HPS + 2 fans all day) i was already using 2600 kwh per month just from electronics

its tight huh... is 4th and 6th street not the best nightlife of anywhere you have ever been? i mean its incredible.. i cant wait to go back and visit in feb hehe

I read the entire article looking for a single peice of information that is allways lurking in these stories & here it is.

The real reason behind this asshole cops witch hunt is getting his share of the seizure pie.

Word to the wise,call your local power supplier & find out exactly what their policy on customer privacy issues is,be sure to ask where you can find the company policy in written form & that the privacy policy covers any issues involving law enforcement.

Be prepared to get the run a round,from employees who continuously ask you to leave your phone number so they can have somebody contact you,in the end most of you will find out this fact about your electric service provider.

Most power companies will not blindly offer information regarding heavy electric usage on their own,but......................................what most will do is to instantly supply any & all records involving a request made from any branch of government or law enforcement,the request need not be accompanied by any warrant either,only a simple phone call from any police officer will initiate the investigation into your past electric useage & they will give up any information any police or government agency asks them to provide.

i agree panhead its just another cowboy cop thinking he is saving the world one yuppie at a time...
the problem is that even if their policy was to keep it explicitly private most likely they will give up any information to gov. entities anyways. Also, seeing as there is no other alternative in the area it kinda makes everyone around there SOL.

it should still be considered private information and i do not see why it would not be the same as a cop going in and monitoring your electricity usage personally. since the home is considered the most private or property under state and federal laws, and that warrants are needed to find out what is going inside a residence, i just cant imagine how monitoring electric usage within the household does not constitute searching the house.. they need warrants to tap phones (well not always anymore under the patriot act) so i feel they should need probable cause to go snooping into someones private life instead of some gestapo sitting at a computer saying hmm.. lets broaden it up some more and look for these pot cultivating terrorists.. fucking irks me

it def is amazing. and its so clean too. the thing i love is that the austinites have created such a comfortable town -- everybody even the cops are chill (for the most part, until i hear shit like this, but theres always bad apples). i plan on living in this town for a long while!
