Walk-in closet grow

I currently have a 5ft by 5ft by 8ft walk-in closet with a 2ft by 4ft by 6ft tent. I have central air with an air vent located in the closet as well. My question is about ventilation...

I have a 4in inline fan & carbon filter exhausting out of the top left side of the tent and basically recirculating in the room (some air is being exhausted out the door into bathroom) and then 6in ducting on bottom right of tent allowing fresh air to be pulled in, along with the two bottom screen doors partially open.

I do have the closet door open a few inches to allow fresh air to come in, and my closet is joined with master/bath. No window in closet but I have a window in the bathroom. I want to be able to keep the tent closed up and the closet door shut if possible.

What are some options for correct ventilation? I hope I explained this well enough, if not, feel free to ask anything?
1. Should I cut a hole to the attic?
2. Or cut a hole and exhaust to the bathroom?
3. And is the central air vent in the closet enough for fresh air intake, or do I need fresh air from another area?

I know this is a lot to read so I apologize in advance, and if this has been discussed recently I apologize for that as well, I didn't see anything on it. I can take some pics if necessary.

I also have a closet grow and I just use passive vent into attic but I use a COB and a Blurple and add fluorescent lights to bring up my temps.

If you have inline fan then can I assume you have an HPS?

Be very careful if your temps and heat exchange is solely dependent upon a single fan hood etc. as if/when fan fails (they all do) are you gonna just ruin your grow or burn down the whole house (happened to friend of mine's daughter....she just got out of prison).

If you are not using an MH or HPS than you likely have plenty as I use a fan on a timer and passive venting into attic. The attic vent also allows cool air in the evening to come down into the closet which I always felt enhanced frosty/crystals on nugs!

The thumbnail of that nug made it look TERRIBLE.... I was like, "is that bud rot?" and clicked the pic...
And I was greeted with glorious beauty. What I thought was brown nug was in fact orange hairs everywhere. Well done.

It depends upon how well your filter is working and if your temps are in a good range with your current setup with full lights on. There's no reason you couldn't just leave it as is and maybe just add a small vent to the closet door so it remains closed while providing air exchange. If you've got good negative pressure...i.e. the walls of your tent suck in slightly while your exhaust fan is working...and you can't smell dank while inside the bathroom you probably can get away without cutting any holes to vent out the exhaust. If temps remain an issue however then I would vent out to the attic and extend that out directly outside; add an exterior dryer vent to conceal it. If smell is a problem go to a larger exhaust fan with speed control and/or larger diameter ducting. Your central a/c should pull plenty enough air to keep your plants happy but either way I would not bother adding co2 because it will just be distributed throughout your home by the a/c.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention im using a blurple as well viparspectra 450 (which I do worry about this light and fire hazard) and I just ordered a QB a few days ago. Thats what I needed to know about the attic, so its cool to just cut a hole to the attic and run my duct work up, or do I need to do any further once im in the attic?

Hey thanks for your reply. I just ordered an Exhale co2 bag like two days ago. Do you think if I put it in my tent in front of the fresh air intake it would be helpful? or was that just a waste to buy. Also im at about 79 for high temp but im worries when I dd the QB this week it will rise a little. its a QB 260 watt. Thanks for your help!

I find with the QB's they prefer an ambient canopy temp of 80-85. I use an Exhale bag in my room also, it takes like 3 weeks for the thing to get going. They do put out a fair bit of Co2 for the price point. I have no idea if it helps, but my gut tells me it does especially in the warmer temps.

Co2 helps alot, i just chill with me plants and they grow better, i am Co2 bag

Exhale bags will raise co2 levels but not enough to really affect your plants plus most of it will be sucked out of the room by your a/c ducts anyway. They are a total waste of money IMO but I have tried them; just spend the bucks to get tanks, a timer, and distribution system or don't bother. You can still grow decent size buds without adding any co2. Temps in the low 80s is not too bad; worry if it gets up over 85.

Dang I was back n forth about the co2 bag and initially this is how I felt. Should of went with my gut. Well it’s not the first time I’ve spent som doe on something I didn’t need, probably won’t be the last either. Thanks for your help.

That viparspectra likely gonna get a little hot. Since hot air rises I find the attic hole does great. I had mine sealed at ceiling but undid the foil tape so hot air can leak around ducting and vent will help direct cool air at night (makes nugs frosty).

I thought I would have to add an inline fan and was surprised I had too turn on my shop lights and add few large CFL's here in the summer where it get's over 100 but with my central air vent opened and have high output fan on a timer so it is actually cooler (because of central air conditioning) in my closet in the summer than in the winter when heater going. Go figure!

I just cut a hole (I spent years in construction and know how to fix drywall....may be a consideration before you cut a hole...hell I'd cut it anyway...your grow more important..lol)

But they make a variety of vents with flanges etc. mine is actually a gas water heater pipe and just cut 1" cuts with tin snips and folded tin back to make my own flanges and is just hanging there. I need to work on it so I can stretch some pantyhose or cheesecloth over ducting to keep stuff from attic blowing in (from attic vents).

I vacuum my blurple fan every two weeks and needs it I think from mostly attic stuff I think but I live in the desert. Also, be sure and push up or clear away insulation in attic directly above hole (or pull insulation down through hole...wear gloves as fiberglass itchy and maybe a dust mask if you have one.

This is my second house that I have cut a hole in the attic in a closet and can promise that fresh air gonna make all the difference in your end product because the vents in attic...hot air will go out and cooler air will come in. Sometimes when got below freezing in Winter I would plug my duct with a rag but mostly just free flow.

Also, your air conditioning will enhance the exhaust effect as should push air up into attic at hole.

Hey,

Thanks for your help. This was pretty much the idea I was leaning toward. I actually have my master bathroom connected to the closet (you walk through the bathroom to enter the walk-in closet)

My point being there is a bathroom exhaust vent maybe 5ft from the closet and I’m wondering would it be best to just tie into that somehow? Or would it be best to just make the grow closet exhaust “it’s own vent”?

I really need to do what easiest at this point
(I do own the house but I still need to have it very stealth for other reasons)

What’s your thoughts on this?

I would make the hole myself because the hot air will collect at ceiling in closet and therefore would place hole there. Then the hot air rising does the work an inline fan would do. Bathroom fan don't think will draw enough to pull air through a duct much distance.
