I wasn't born til 69 but seem to be twice as old or more as most of the jokers on here... AC/DC and KISS was the popular music about the time I found out what pot was... Never got into the hippie grove although my friends from high school used to buy sheets of acid for me from the dead concerts. I paid $150 for a sheet of 100 hits and sold them back in my home town for $5 to friends and $7 to their friends....

That doesn't make me a hippie but I'm still an old fart.....

1970 was a weird year for me, my draft lottery number was 12, so I was pretty sure I was going to nam...I was still in high school and they put me in a delayed entry program...2 days after graduation I wrecked my motorcycle and was layed up for about a year...the military did not want me after that for some reason....

Unfortunately fdd was right. Meth killed the hippie movement. I was there and remember it. Between 1967 and 1969 a sea change happened, people who had been talking about peace and love started carrying guns, fights became common, people started dieing. Meth! And the stupid thing is it's back.

You are right, it is a terrible drug. There is a successful campaign against Meth that a Montana billionaire started waging which has drop meth use in his state by over 40%. 'Not even once' is the theme, several others are beginning to 'buy' his program. VV

maybe we should have called it the old farts club....I think the hippie part was more of symbolism sort of thing....

Yeah, "hippy" was more of a "Life Magazine" kind of tag.We would have been insulted if called "hippies", we used "heads" and later "freaks"to refer to ourselves. And of course now we are "old farts" just because the "sixties" (really bout 1964 to 1974) are that long ago. Wasn't it like 1967 that "the death of hippy" was celebrated in SF?

'67 was the Summer of Love, out here at least. Tom Wolf wrote about some of it in 'The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test', a book more about Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters. :)

You're a fart? I may be a little young, though I do remember Watergate. Hell, I remember my folks arguing with my grandfather about Nixon versus McCarthy. And back then they smoked turkey feathers, which I thought were far preferable to cigarettes. And when I was little, back then, I thought that when I grew up I would either be a hippie or a stripper. Both get to wear beads and feather boas you see, and I knew of no other profession that would not only allow one to wear beads and feather boas, but for which they were a job REQUIREMENT. :lol:

I spent August of 1967 at Expo 67 in Montreal. I worked at a tannery for 2 months to get the money (don't ask), stayed at an old military base they were using as a hostel, went to the fair about 10AM every day and stayed until closing at 2AM. I was 18 years old and in my glory, French-Canadian girls and black hash,,,sigh,,,

strange, where I was from dope was heroin.
And then all of a sudden all the kids are calling weed dope and all the naive parents are calling them "dopeheads" or "dopers".

Anyone called me a dopehead I'd knock their block off(sorry the little bit of british in me)
