lol the NY times is against anyone aint obama.

Obama told him that he would be taxed.
so obama doesn't understand his own tax plan?

The NY times needs to question the platform of obama, not sam.

actually, "joe" admitted in you tube video (sorry don;t have link) that he misquoted his situation to obama. he originally said the business made 250k but corrected it to say it would cost 250k, probably making about 50k

The point of the Joe the Plumber scenario is: O'Bama wants to take money away from moderately successful people who have worked their asses off to get ahead a little bit, and give that money to those who haven't earned it. In other words, O'Bama is no better than a Highwayman who lays in wait for a victim, sticks a gun at the victim's head and takes his money. Well, there IS one difference ... the Highwayman, once he has stolen your money, leaves you alone. O'Bama and his ilk will NEVER leave you alone. They will steal your hard earned assets over, and over, and over, and over .... again.

hey vi,

long time no argue. yes, i realize the repub talking points about socialism. thanks for repeating them.

here's a few facts, check them out:

the top 5% of income earners pay almost exactly the same proportion of the total taxes as their share of total income. the often quoted stat of how large a proportion of taxes are paid by the top 5% never takes into account their share of national income. i think that's without cap gains, too. in reality, we do not have a progressive tax structure - that is a myth of the right.

secondly, the neocon/religious right repub party has run up a $10 trillion deficit through runaway military spending (check it out, the US is 52% of the world's military budget) and giveaway social spending (eg, medicare drug program).

the issue for me is not socialism, it is globalization and the resulting huge change in income distribution in this country. the richest in this country have benefited greatly from globalization as profits have flowed very efficiently and purposely to the top. great job in fact. the rest of this country, however, suffers from the low cost competition from overseas. individual income in the middle class has not grown in thirty years. check it out. family income has increased only because of women entering the job market. over the past 8 years even household income has been flat and consumption has grown only by the amount of easy credit available. those days are over, of course.

a nationalistic capitalistic model in a global economy is a formula for eventual social anarchy. frankly, i am out of solutions that doesn't involve some type of bottom up approach. would be happy to hear one - ??

By "moderately successful" you mean the top 2% of small business, yeah, they'd pay a little more on taxes on business income above $250k (39% rate, what it was during the Clinton years, as opposed to the 36% rate from the big tax cuts targeted at the rich). If you take into account the other tax breaks Obama offers small businesses, you'd have to be raking in truly huge money to even notice the difference. But for 98% of small businesses, they'd be better off with Obama. Obviously, if you're one of the 2% of extremely wealthy small businesses who'd do better with McCain, then vote for McCain. Republicans always pander to the rich, and there's nothing new about them trying to do the same thing this election cycle.

Funny thing is Joe (Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher) The Plumber, should have left well enough alone. He has caught the attention of the IRS and is now being investigated for Tax Evasion.

Also there is a Business in Amarillo Texas that has a DBA name of "Joe The Plumber" who's business has gone up by 50% because of the mention of Joe The Plumber in the Debates.

That is pure bullshit. Provide a link if you have it.

Joe the Plumber owes back property taxes to the tune of $1250.00. How many Americans are behind on property taxes? Other than added interest charges, property taxes can become five years in arrears before a property owner MUST pay them.

PS: Chuckie ... will you EVER contribute anything to this forum other than personal attacks?

State or federal, Tax evasion is Tax evasion. BTW, The link was working yesterday.
Dank ...

The fact that someone owes back taxes doesn't mean they are guilty of tax evasion. It just means that they can't afford to pay their tax bill for the time being. The government makes allowances for that ... but they charge penalties and interest on the amount due. Now, on then other hand, if someone omits income from their tax returns knowing full well that they owe taxes on it, then that is tax evasion. Of course, there are those who feel, in view of the condition of the federal government today, that evading taxes is a patriotic duty. Joe Biden would disagree of course.
