Hey has anyone ran vortex in a sog setup? I know sub reccomends a veg into a large bush. But what about vegging a topped clone 1-2 weeks and growing at a space of 1 per square foot so 16in my 4x4. Thanks for absolutely any advice u can offer. I'm just tryin to run 1 month perpetuals so 8one month 8 the next. Have my keepers vegging now to try this. Just wanna know if anyone jas experience.

Hey there midwestmmj-
I ran Vortex for quite a while so I can tell you at least what I think from what I saw....others might say differently. In a nutshell, I would probably say it is not the best strain for SOG. On the other hand, phenotype could play an important role in the success of it. My favorite phenotype of Vortex really needed a lot of veg time for a large yield and big buds. Flowered small it just didn't do nearly as well and a SOG style outdoor plant of it this year yield very small buds (although they were probably the best smoke I've had all year!). Another phenotype I had would have done much better in SOG due to it's structure being less branchy and floppy. All said and done though it seems to be a strain that once vegged huge, it will yield pretty damn well.
Hope this helps a bit-
ps- My avatar is of the second pheno of Vortex I mentioned that I would think would do better in SOG. That bud is the top of one main head on a big plant in a 10 gal pot....but if you could replicate that bud as a single plant on SOG then all would be good I would think? :leaf:

yea ive never messed with sea of green and i only have a 4x4 so i really dunno whats gonna maximize yield with minimal veg time. ive been doing a bush but im not getting the penetration i want to mature the inner buds, guess ill just have to wipe out the bottom 1/3-1/2 now that im kinda startin to get it and understand the way plants direct growth hormones. i have 6 3 apollo dominant, and 3 sour k.o pheno, at least thats what i call it :) that ive had veggin for 2-3 weeks so ill prob just throw em in there in a week or 2 when i chop at 8 weeks and clear out the tent from all that will be drying :) thanks man

I couldn't tell you what pheno this is, but it is Vortex and topped to give 4 main branches. flowered at 8" tall roughly. I am growing the first female I got from the ten pack. 4 weeks in. They are about 2' x 2' in size now.

That is two plants, side by side.
For a sog, you better not top at all. and startem small.

I run a small 2 sq. ft. SOG under a 150 hps with 6-8 plants in 1 gallon pots and am putting a vortex in soon. results in 10 weeks or so.

What kind of results do you get Sir? It almost seems too small to use 8 plants with.
Running a perpetual multi strain grow(up to 10 different strains again eventually currently 3-5), get 10 grams from my low yielders, 20-24 from my high yielders, harvest approx. 1 every week or 2. I believe if a ran my large yielders only I would meet or top the gram per watt mark. Nutes are all organic mix in and subs supersoil. Here it was a few weeks ago with 7 inside, and here is Vortex set to go in 2 cola style. With a small light like this and many plants it's all about canopy management, and a well established root system. Have ran this same setup hardly altered for over a decade on and off

I have clones veggin for 4 weeks now I'm about to clobe one of each keeper and run em all 2 week clone stage then 1 week veg vs 2 week veg vs 4 week veg. Just to get a feel for how to maximize my yield.

If you cant win with a sog small plant setup with vortex (never ran it) and its advised to give it extra veg time, why not try a scrog? Run 1 or 2 plants with a screen. The thing about a SOG that scares me into running a scrog is the plant #'s. After 99 is where feds get involved I believe, had I not known that I would have 100's of plants in a 2 liter bottle hempy or coco grow with zero veg time to get a bigger yield in a smaller area. But I bumped up from a 4x4 to a 4x8 now so I have a little room to run LST'd and scrogged plants, however I think the 1 plant scrog I have is going to out yield anything else I have going by quite a bit (all TGA gear).

I just ordered the book called "secrets of the west coast masters" which is supposed to be all about getting massive yields out of low low plant #'s, like 1 plant per 4x4/1000w light and yielding #'s (plural) out of a 4x4. Once I get the book and check it out I'll post any good info I pull out of it.
