Viparspectra 600w distance?

Hey guys,

I recently bought viparspectra 600w LED light and I'm having some issues with it compared to my previous grow with 400w MH/HPS.

I prepared seeds like usual and they have been in the tent for a couple days now. Problem is they all look a bit more skinny then they did with my previous MH/HPS setup, and some of them are dropping like they are unable to hold themselves up.

The distance i started with was at around 39 - 40 inches (100 cm), i then moved them to around 35 inches (90 cm) so 10 cm closer. I did that yesterday and today another one is dropping and touching the dirt with its top.

What distance should i have the LED at in this early stage? The instructions say 100-120 cm for completely new plants, so should i try to move them further away, like maybe 45 inches or something?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

what size tent do you have for a 600w led ? the question might not be too relevant seeing as your previous 400w was fine . How far are you fans ? it doesnt look to me like lighting is the problem , you might have your fans too high or too close .

The VIPARspectra instructions seem to suggest using the blue spectrum for veg,,,it's bad advice. Run the light full spectrum all the time. 36" - 40" is the right distance for seedlings. I've been trying out this light for a few months, and have not had good success with seedlings under it. I went back to CFL for seedlings till they get a couple nodes.

So, my advice is this:
-turn on full spectrum
-keep the light fixture around 36" - 40"
-let the plants grow to the light instead of lowering it.

Edit to add that this is free advice from some random (maybe even retarded) person on the internet and your mileage may vary

That's a lot of plants.... I would want the light about 20" from them Max. That light will grow 1 badass plant but anything more than that you are out of luck.

This early in the grow plants needs barely any light so put it as far as possible once they start growing multiple leaves (nodes) then you can start lowering it.. probably in the range of 25-30inch to start and see if they take it well.. try to go progressive so they dont get stress..

Yeah definitively looks like a tons of plants for this light.. dont let them grow for too long do SOG and put them to flower early because your 600w vipar spectra at probably around 300w actual draw power from the wall wont do good to that much plants if you let them become too big

You ain't doing much weight with 1 600 Vipa on all them pots no chance. I run 2x 600 and use a max of 6x oxypots with auto flowers and does me fine. I manage to pull 3ounces a pot. Don't use the vipa for seedlings go t5 or CFL.

Good luck but 1 600 won't work for you ..

Viparspectra is not an upgrade from 400W HID. Unfortunately you downgraded yourself. Return the blurple junk (if you can) and resume using the HID until you can get LEDs that actually ARE a step up; i.e. Quantum board, Samsung strips, Timber grow lights, Rapid LED, etc.
