Very Cold Nugs

I live at the 3100 ft elevation of Central Oregon (The High Desert) I have 2 indica and 2 sativa's....I put them in the garden shed about 3 weeks ago when we had our first frost. I have searched the web high and low for info on cold weather ripening....no luck! Every article I come across says the plants will not grow, produce resin or mature fully.
These nugsters have been fattening daily on a diet of well water and molasses....I dug out my little magnifying glass and the trichs are either cloudy or frozen! After 3 years of NorCal growing this is crazy. I have a space heater that runs from bedtime to sunrise. The temp has not been above 45 degrees for over a week...It looks like one more week on the indica and 3 more on the sativa...The sativa have hot pink hairs. I grew it last year in Cal and they matured until November 18th....

they look good. if it gets to freezing temps. then u will have issues. the cold makes weed turn purple. I got a buddy in reno who has the same thing goin on. pink and purple hairs(pistils) he has a huge ditch dug out gor his gurls.like 8ft. then 2ft holes inside for them.the heater is a good idea. maybe try to insulate them room

Those plants look beautiful. If you water them with nice and warm water they will like it a lot in that cold weather. Me myself am not so fortunate - i've just emergency harvested some plants that didn't like the cold weather much. Congratulations with your beautiful girls!

OMFG THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I"VE HAD TO RETYPE A PAGE OF SHIT......

much abridged version:

cold does not "make weed turn purple" ... some genetic lines have the ability to turn purple in cold temps. some purple genetics are purple regardless of temperature/time of year.

most cannabis cannot deal with frost, and resin production And flower growth will slow down and stop all together in some cases.
this is because their ancestors are souther sativas etc etc, where they have not had cold temps in growing season as regular part of their life.
many strains have been bread from high altitude, and northern latitude, genetics.... these strains will grow even in heavy frost like nothing happened, because their ancestors have been doing it for thousands of years.

your plants are healthy and show NO signs of frost damage. you will first see the Pistils turning brown/sad/dead m and also tips of leaves etc.... extreme damage will be visibly brown/gree and soggy looking wilted leaves, branches, even buds. your pistils in the Photos are still able to accept pollen, so they either have Some cold tolerance, or the weather hasn't really been to bade (probably because of your efforts :) )

Solution : is a greenhouse and option for you? ghetto rig some cut down trees or 2x4's in a lean-to type fashion. put cheap ass plastic over it, put your plants in, and put shitloads of bottles and jugs of water in there..... even pain backs of jugs black, or have on top of black plastic.... this heats up the water above freezing, and slowly releases enough heat through the night to keep ambient temperatures above freezing. manual airing out in day time would be necessary.

i reccomend you try growing strains that are either bred/acclimated to your climate, or who have direct ancestors from similar regions to your climate. OR, just grow very early strains and beat the cold weather all together.

Look into ACE seeds, im sure they have something, maybe Bangi Haze or Guerilla ?

early Dutch/Danish/Nordic genetics like: Thyphoon, Royal Dane, Early Dane, Danish Passion etc etc etc etc and all the hybrids using them, do very well in cold conditions AND are early flowering.
early strains like Guerilla Gold #3 are excellent, but dont have as MUCH cold tolerance, but finish early.

i had more written up, but shit man, 3 times in a row lol......

EDIT ----the hobbit is right. just dont make the water TOO warm. realistically, over 70*F would probably do more harm than good... your plants are in cold weather mode, they wont know what to do with summertime 80-90*F water, it will make roots do one thing while rest of plant is trying to do another. the 70F* water should raise your soil temps above 50*, where they should be ideally :)

Good advise.....thanks ...I will either get new seeds that flower earlier, clones or a better insulated greenhouse. It has already been down to 15 degrees...the heater kept it right above freezing...The warm water sounds good also...Thanks for taking the time to write (3 times) you already harvested...didn't you?

Good idea. I found a use for one of my cover all sheds, the south is open and the sun gets my 5 remaining ladies. Tonight, first freeze. I collect rainwater in gallon jugs anyway, I'll truck some into the shed today, should be sunny.
Yeah, I had a purple crop, purple from babies through mating season. One little male who hid behind a tall female impregnated all my non purples. So I have a ton of seeds that produce a purple green high energy sticky variety. I like the idea of Danish or other hearty strains. I just could never buy a seed through the mail. And I don't get out much.
