Venting to Sewer

So Im setting up my room this weekend in my basement, I chose the location partly because the washer/dryer vents are nearby as well as the sump but that got me thinking. In most plumbing set ups there is a pipe leading off the main drain pipe and going up to the roof to exhaust sewer gas and other nastiness, could I make an S type trap leading to the pipe with an 80cfm in line pushing it and just let my room odor travel up the pipe to the outside? Masked by the odor of the sewer?

Thoughts?

That could work but the vent pipe on your roof is only 1 1/2 inches (38cm) a 80 cm fan would be wasted. You would probably be blowing poo and what not all over your roof. And if that vent gets clogged for some reason you would get "blowback" all in your growspace.

hahaha...poo all over my roof

There is no chance of poo comming out because I want to make the connection off the acual exhaust pipe, my only concern (why I need any pressure at all) is to keep the gas from backing out, the S trap or some type of water trap would be the 1st line of defense against that. This just seems like a too sweet alternative to carbon filtering out the basement window.

all of your plumbing devices are on water traps called "p" traps. these hold water so sewer gas cannot come inside the house.

if you tie into that 3'' vent stack above all other plumbing, you should never have a problem. use a directional fitting to aim the air upward.

good friggin idea though  but i'd still be worried about smell with no carbon.... there is no sewer gas coming from the roof; that vent is to allow air passage, so things flush down correctly. and so the traps don't get the water sucked out of them from the vacuum of draining water (like a syphon thing)

Hi speed Ive been thinking about the same thing. Im still getting stuff together to start a grow. how about a carbon filter out the vent pipe?
anybody got an idea how to do that? I saw a DIY carbon scubber somewhere on here.:peace:peace out man:peace:

Yeah the DIY carbon scrubber is on here somewhere...and for $20-30 more you can get a nice one shipped to you from ebay and they seem pretty sweet. I have mine and am waiting on my hood and fan to hook it all up. If you have a grow that will be flowering more than 4 plants at a time you will probably want the carbon filter...more than 8 and you will want a good carbon filter and maybe some O.N.A. too. Larger than that and well...you get the idea. You can get a carbon filter that is stand alone in the room too...there are a lot of options including, but not limited to, the ghetto rig you are thinking of.
Good Luck!

I am thinking the same thing. I want to set up a tee off the 3 inch pvc of the sewer system vent. However i would like to cool the air as well as filtering it before it is released outside. I will be extremely satisfied if this could be accomplished, any ideas?

Just to update you on this, I have hooked the system up and will be posting pics in the grow journal soon. I have the scrubber to light to venting to fan then vented out through the attic(there it goes into current a/c ducts) and the temps in the room now with the door closed do not go above 81...that is sweet as before they would go up up and away...all the way to 100 one time...so yeah it works. As for the smell...well now we are in flowering and it just smells like I smoked a bowl but I think that is from the new veg cab and not the flower room. Anyway...venting that way so far works for my little grow.
