hey, just getting started on my first grow. i have a 4ft wide by 10 ft long by 8 ft high room inside a basement room. my concern is the basement room is 50 F maybe. i dont know how to vent my grow room right without dropping the temp too much. i plan on using a 600 watt air cooled hps. my 4x10 room is split in half for veg and flower. im planning on using a 600 watt air cooled mh for veg. i also dunno what to use to keep my room warm enough, i have a honeywell space heater w thermostat but it doesnt seem to keep the temp stable. anyways just needed a little help w that i understand cfms and all that i was going to mount a 6 inch inline fan aat the top of the room and one at the bottom, do you think that air will be too cold to pull into the room? i dont k now please help.....thanks

Alright so my first reccomendation would be to get a heater with thermostat that works. I have about the same size room and what I did was make a few smaller rooms with the black plastic that painters use. Doing this will raise the temperature in the smaller room compared to the ouside air. This way if your going to suck in the the air it will be a little warmer. Also if you are worried about your heater failing, get one of the Thermostats that have the remote sensor. This way you can always keep an eye without having an eye in your room. This will also help you keep your much needed heat in. Now that I look back at your post use the air from your flowering room. Also insulate with that square blue 1/4 in insulation.

Why you useing aircooled hoods,if you want your room warmer.Get yourself a digital thermometer, and a small heater to put in your grow space,or do what ,Gamebuster wrote. If your growing in hydro, and the waters to cold get a submersible heater,if in soil ,put pots ontop of styrofoam

or better yet dont air cool the light and make sure that you have it set to run at night when its coldest with a little insulation you should be fine

As 1koolguy said don't cool your lights that way you will use the heater less often because the light itself will heat that small of a room for the most part. Insulation is the key. for instance my power went out for 3 hours just now. The outside temp was 25* because I insulated the portion of the shed I used the temp didn't go below 65. Take the time to insulate your grow room and you will thank yourself later when you get your electric bill. You might not even need the ventilation is your get a few small oscialting fans.

thanks man, i think im gonnna try it without ventilation first and just go with batwing reflectors and oscilating fans, my rooms are pretty small and i only plan on 10 plants each room. im also trying to find some good blackout material, our walmart doesnt have any fabric any more, i just plan on using it to seperate the tworooms. anyone have any ideas or links i could check out?? do you guys think 600 watts is too big for such a small space? ive readup and down about lumens per sq ft, at least 5000 per sq ft is recommended but was wondering if 400 watts at 55,000 lumens would be enough for a 4x5 room. they say the more lumens per sq ft the better the yield. anyways i just want some input from experienced growers. thanks for answering my questions!

Stick with the 600 you will be very happy. As far as the blackout material goes go to lowes or home depot and get the black painters cloth. It might be called something else but it is what they use in the haunted houses to block light and such. If you are going to run a flowering room and a vegging room at the same time then your going to need two lights. One 400 watt mh in the vegging room and that 600 hps in your flowering room would be nice :)
