Hey all, I have got a 100x100x180cm tent with a 600w HPS( I have ballas and bulb) I will be ordering my cool hood next week. I was wondering what size fan should i get, Should i get a 5inch 365m3/hour fan or a 6inch 470m3/hour fan?

Thanks all

Webb

I agree a five inch will be fine. I have a tent of similiar size, with 550w hps cooltube and use a 4" 200cfm on a var. control for exhaust and another 4" for intake. I use my homes crawlspace for intake air....with cold weather and available intake air being cold, I can keep both fans on very low speed and maintain 70-80f .....

So, how is your filter coming into play in all this? Is this ducting just for exhausting the heat from your light? I would try to keep all the same size diameter the whole way through. The more it changes, and especially if you have a lot of bends in the ducting, the more it will restrict your airflow.

basicly i will have it so it will suck air from the tent thru a carbon filter thru the hood then out the tent

Make sure the fan you get has a speed that is suited to your filter. You don't want the fan to be too strong for your filter, it will not filter your grow space air as well as it should. Conversely the fan also needs to be big enough to draw air through the filter and still have enough steam to exhaust it out. That can influence your decision as much as the diameter of the fan.

I would do a 6" for the simple fact of that (for me) I always see 6" ducting and accessories and such but haven't seen much in the way of 5". That may or may not be an issue for you. I also tend to be a go big or go home type of person.

i was looking at carbon filters and there are some that say "suitable for all 125mm/5inch fans" if i got the 5 inch would that carbon filter be fine?

I started with a odorsok carbon filter sucking heat and fumes and this did not work well..I then found out that the filter is for blow or suck...Reversed it and clipped the open duct directly to lip of light over plants and the filter is outside of the tent mounted on the wall, this made a big difference and all is working fine now. I run fan 24 hrs now plant is stinking. and sleep in the same room...The humming is relaxing been sleeping great too...lol

I have been using 5 inch fans in my 3x 1.2m flower rooms under 600W for a while now and they work perfectly, considering you will have a closed hood you are in an even better boat. GO FOR IT!!

True, I have seen that 4" and 6" ducting and accessories are more readily available at hardware stores than 5".

I have and 8 inch fan in a setup like yours...I don't think you can really go wrong with a bigger fan you get more CO2 to the plants and better odor control...just my two cents
