Ventilation/Airflow Design Help

Hey everyone, this is my first posting on the forums after reading for some time now.

I'm in the process of planning my grow room and having some questions regarding ventilation and airflow. My basic setup(leaving out some of the smaller stuff) will be as follows:

Secret Jardin Dark Room 5x5x7
Cool Sun 6" reflector with 600w Lumatek Digital HPS Ballast
Multi-Flow Ebb & Flow Hydro Setup

Now my biggest concern is cooling inside the tent. I'm looking to place about 8-12 plants depending on space inside the unit. The tent itself will be up on a loft-like area in my house directly next to a window that can be used to exhaust out of.

I think I understand the cooling process for the light setup- ducting on both ends with an inline fan exhausting outside, but I don't know if thats all I should have ventilation wise? Shouldn't I also have another fan attached to ducting getting rid of air in the room, not the light, you know?

Somebody please chime in and share your complete ventilation solution that works for you, or advise me on what I should buy to make this setup as cool as can be!

intake low, out take high.

Vent air at the maximum temp it can get in your grow area, which would be at the top of the chamber as hot air rises..

Thank you for the very informative graphic! Would an exhaust blower be advised for the room outtake or another inline fan? What about for room intake?

i trying right now to choose a fan. i have the same size as you with a duct reducer fan (6 inch) as my only fan so far. i want an inline fan so ican start pulling thru a charcoal filter, i am not sure as too what size to get. the reason i cant fig it out is because i dont want to get a fan to small for charcoal filter or one to big that it just pulls the air with the smell right thru! I need help, same size so i fig 4 inch but its gotta go thru charcoal so if fig bigger for more str? any ideas.

for a 600w in a space that big(which you should be able to fit that many plants into by the way) you should only need a 6 inch inline fan sucking air straight from the light and then dumping it out the window if thats what oyu want to do(most do not reccomend this due to flir but hey alot of people still do it) with you pulling the hot air at its source from the light this should drastically reduce oyur temp. you should also yes have another fan brining fresh air into the tent. with that you should be fine. use a 400 cfm or something along them lines and you should be golden. if not try and a/c in the room but i doubt youll need that bro depending on where you live though.

Do you really think a 400cfm fan would be necessary? The tent kit that I'm looking to buy from BGhydro comes with a 4" 178 Can Fan setup? Should that be sufficient if I have a 6" 440cfm fan cooling just the light?

lol, thats exactly what i am doing right now. i wooried tho nout the 4 inch fan not being able to pull the air out a charoal filtrt or if i get a 600 watt then will it pul air to fst an i be in trouble. i have a 400 but i thiking right ti second of buying a 600 and a 6 inch vortes to go in my tent like yours. i worried bout electricity but i also worry about stretvhy buds. peeps ay not worry, i in a 1 bed apt and i already at baseline hours with 400!

well man i heard from someone that its better to have more airflow than not enough. i mean the 4 inch is not enough in my opinion.there was a thread on here that i seen where you can calculate it out. with that size tent i think you would need a 6 inch vortex. youc an also get a seperate control unit to turn the fan lower or higher. Id rather have to much than to little ya know. i would use the other 4 inch fan to bring air in. and then you can make sure oyu pull all the air out. and the other worry you had was the carbon filter you can see the size comparisons if oyu look on ebay they say what fan it can be put with. liek up to 424 cfm or some shit. ebay is a great place to look. a fan is like only 160 with shipping inlucded. but thats jsut my opinion on it all

Ended up going all out and getting two 6" 440CFM vortex fans. Hopefully that will keep my environment niice and stable :) Look for my posts in the grow journal section to come!

like the digram, but quick question(s)...couldn't the light exhaust fan also be on the inside attached to a flange, but still pull the air through? same question regarding the intake...can it be attached inside as well...that way nobody can see $&#^ (hoping to pass setup off as a wardrobe if need be and dont want much to draw attention to it ya know?)
also...isnt there an exhaust port on top? could one of the fans (filter or light) be attached there...buying my dr150 soon but want to make sure i know my setup before i get dirty...peace out herbal ninjas!:weed:
