Ventilating Tent Properly?

Hi everyone,


I am a bit of a newb to indoor, have some experience with outdoor but have never had to deal with ventilation.

I have a 2x4 Gorilla Grow tent (http://www.fullbloomhydroponics.net/gorilla-grow-tent-2-x-4/) and have purchased the following for ventilation:

4" in-line duct booster fan, planning on using this for intake.


Am also waiting on a few clip on circulating fans for inside circulation but thats not really pertaining to the post.

NOTE: I am using LEDs so ventilating lights is not an issue.

My question(s) are:

I have 5 duct holes on the tent. Two on the top on each side and two on the bottom on each side and one on the top of the tent. There are very good pictures on the fullbloomhydroponics link above. What is the best location for the intake/exhaust implementation? I was thinking of hanging the carbon filter from velcro straps provided with the tent, run a few inches of ducting from the filter to the HO fan and a few more inches of ducting to the hole on the upper left side of the tent. I was thinking of using the inline fan on the bottom right duct hole on the tent to pull air in. This way I am pulling air in from the bottom on one side and pushing it out on the top on the other side. Is that a correct setup or is there a better placement for the fans?

There is also a ventilation hole on the back of the tent that I did not notice when I had bought the inline fan. For a 2x4x7 tent do I need an intake fan or would leaving the ventilation hole on the back of the tent open and just pulling through the top with the exhaust enough?

Also, if mounting the inline fan for intake is suggested what is the best way to implement it? Do I need ducting on both sides or should I just run ducting on one side to go through the duct hole on the tent?


I know I'm a bit all over the place here but I have never had to deal with this. For a long time I was living in northern cali and going outdoor, it was super simple. Thanks for any suggestions or advice. I can post pictures if it would help just let me know what you want to see. The tent isn't in "production" right now but I want to have it setup in the next week as I'm getting ready to start germinating tonight.

Dude that inline fan is way over priced try ebay for equipment

The link was the only one I could find, I bought it from a local shop and got a decent deal on it. Spent about $250 for the filter, two fans, flange, and a bunch of other misc. I think the fan was about $80-90 if I remember right. I'll keep your suggestion in mind but I'm more concerned with making sure I implement them correctly.

I keep my exhaust fan outside my tent. I found it easier to mount the fan to a wall than hang it inside the tent. Either way works fine. You don't have to use ducting on both sides of the fan; filter, duct, then fan is all you need.

Intake will be simple in your case. A short run of duct will help keep your tent light proof. You should not need an intake fan. I use panty hose as a filter for my intake - keeps bugs and dust out.

Your exhaust should be at the top of your tent and intake toward the bottom.

Im actually having a hard time with this to. Just got small tent, got 4" duct fan, and 8 ft of duct, a 300 watt led, to put in my 2x2x4 tent...
Wat would be the most efficient practical way to set up? No carbon filters, nothing fancy, just trying to find best way to venalate. There are so many holes... and there is even one on the top, is that just for hot air to escape? Thanks guys. Hope some one has some ideas!!!

Before I start kicking up odors,
I push cool air into the bottom of my tent, through a screen, and open up the "chimney" hole. I use a regular 12 in desk fan. The tent then has positive pressure, with the hottest air being released.

Thus helps me keep temps and humidity up for seedlings, and it's simple as it gets.

When they flower I hang up the big hurricane and filter. Carbon scrubbing helps prevent pm and I've sucked bugs out of the air by sitting it on the floor before.

I wish you had a pic, i understand the chimney hole, but how you drawing in with that 12" fan?

I set the fan outside the tent with the mouth against the intake vent, pushing air into the tent.

Puffs the tent up like a balloon but it keeps more moisture in the air and helps keep the tent warm with low wattage lights.

I'll post a pic if you'd like. It's so simple I feel like I'm doing something wrong.
