Vegging HPS vs CFL

Hey, so I've recently read a few people's oppinions which argued that it was more effective to Veg under CFLs and to switch to HPS to flower instead of using HPS all the way through.

CFLs do seem to have a better light spectrum for vegging (larger amounts of blue light), but I wanted to get a few more people's educated oppinions.

So what do you think? Veg w/ CFLs and switch to HPS to flower? Or just stick with HPS the whole way through???

Thanks much.

Clearly the best lighting plan is to use fluro for seedling, MH for veg, and HPS for flower but for your situation, Dude, I'm gonna have to say veg under CFLs and then flower under HPS. If you grow strictly under HPS, your plants will be more spiny and tall and will have an overall smaller yield. Although 1. you'll need a lot of cfls or 2. it'll take a long time to veg, the CFLs will still have the power needed for a strong veg stage.

Yeah, I just wrapped up my first grow under CFLs all the way through. I definitely didn't have quite the right amount of light, but that was the least of my problems. I won't go into details, but my first grow was disastrous and, though it flowered and produced very dank bud, it was an incredibly small yield.

On a lighter note, just started my second set of girls flowering about a week ago, Vegged under CFLs and just switched to a 400w HPS that I recently bought. These girls are thriving, and I now just consider the first batch to be an incredible learning experience.

I think starting with CFLs was a great idea! And absolutely agree that rolling up your sleeves and growing is the best teacher :leaf:
