I thought it best to write this thread as i got very confused when I first joined this site as to how long to veg' from seed.
If you are growing from seed I believe (after doing a little reading) that the optimum veg' time from seed is three months. I flowered my first crop after 3 1/2 weeks veg from seed. I believe the confusion comes in because most people are growing from clones and a 4 week veg for a clone is a very good veg' indeed.
If you try and cut down your veg' time (from seed) this will show in your overall yield and flowering time. If you are growing from seed, you should veg for at least 6 weeks, or even 8 if you want to see that yield explode.
Of course, once you have selected your mother plant the natural instinct is to simply place the rest of the crop into flower straight away. By doing this your plants may take two weeks or even longer before they start showing sex. Whereas the extra 2 weeks veg' and your plants will almost always start showing sex in just a few days.
Flowering times may well be genetic, but the process to get it started can be speeded up simply by giving your plants an adequate veg'. Flowering doesn't always begin the moment you switch to 12/12.
