veg stage (still on 24 cycle). Is this a female indicator? [updated pic]

This is week day 24 after sprouting.
I read somewhere that it is possible to tell if the plant is female during veg stage.

Was too stoned when I read it so can't find the exact link (will edit post with links shortly).. but here is something related

I am posting a pic of one of my bigger plants. Would appreciate if someone can point me to the right answer out of the following:

(a) it is female
(b) it is male
(c) it is not possible to determine yet/the pic is not clear enough

Note that the plant is still in veg stage (24 hour lighting)

Can't really make anything out by the picture, but there's really no way of telling while in veg. Especially that early on, there's no way he/she is showing preflowers already. If what you're referring to are two green hair-like things on each side of a node, those are called stipules and have no correlation to the sex of a plant.

24hr straight.... plants gotta sleep too dude, try cutting down to 18on 6 off... when she/he is about 6weeks old you should see the pre-flowers and go from there..

I heard that 24 may stress them but also that switching from 24/0 to 18/6 is also stressful. Is that worth the risk?

My plants didn't begin to start showing pre-flowers until around 46 days after sprouting, and by day 49 it was clear which were female and which were male.


Here's a couple other pics that show the developments a little more clearly IMO....






Top pic clearly shows the fine white hairs extending from the pistule, and the bottom pic shows the stipules (center protrusions) and pistule development (left of stipules).

This last pic shows a male pre-flower. Notice the different shape and lack of fine white hair protruding out the top...






Hope that clears it up a bit better for you.

Thanks for the detailed pics. It seems 1st and 2nd pics are the same.

Anyway I realize now that the "hairs" in my plant are stipules and not pistils

i`ve never read that... but no i have never had that issue when flipping, and i think your plants will thank you with the rest... just my opinion...

Very nice pics...clear as day! There is a simple way to determine sex in veg that I know of. Simply place a dark bag(light proof) over a branch for 12 hours a day simulating the flowering cycle and this will give u the answer without flowering and reverting or cloning. Hope this help...happy growin!

Mine did fine under 24/0, and the growth was the same or better than what I have seen posted by other growers at the same age.

As a n00b, the one thing I learned while researching prior to my grow is that there is a wide variety of approaches that can be used to successfully grow cannabis. I've seen growers post successful logs using 24/0, 20/0, 18/6 and even using the "lamp light" approach.

Lamp light? I think it really doesnt matter,ive done 18/6 and mine seem to just as good.Now if i was using 1k for vegg or 2x 600 for the power consumption id think about 18/6,but i use t5ho for vegg and my mother plants.been using 24/7 for many yrs so not having any problems and no need for another timer.

hey!.. i just chopped 1 male today out of 12 plants.. one is female because she showed me early white hairs.. none the others have shown sex.. but one male did early.. had to kill him.. my camera sucks so sorry.. but you can kinda see the male buds.. it will eventually show its sometime after a month if growing.. at least it does for me outside.. im in SD and i started in may/june.. good luck!

I have had some plants in veg for almost 60+ days with no sign of preflower growth, had others show me in quick as 25-30 days...... depends on the genetics.

I also used to run 24/0 but there are some things a plant does in dark period and certain hormones that are made that do not get produced in light. Learned this in a horti class; so actually some dark period is better then no dark period, although like i said I used to run 24/0 and never had much of an issue.

Now i run about 20ish and 4 or 19ish and 5....... just depends on me timing out.... I had some that went from 24/0 to 18/6 and believe it or not they started to wanna flower..... so I keep mine just a lil shorter then 6 hours dark time incase.
