Veg indoor/transition outdoor

First off I would like to state that this is my firsts forum post. I have been using RIU for personal inquiries for quite some time. I really enjoy the community here and would like some help. I have 3 plants in veg, indoor right now. They all were planted 11/28/2016. They were planted in soil in solo cups gradually worked there way into 5 gal. buckets. ( which is there current home. I am awaiting a shippment of 7 gal airpots. This will be there final home. but more on that in a few...) I am worried about the lighting timeing i am currently using do too the fact that I plan on taking these plants from indoor to outdoor to finish veg and flower. I am on a 16/8 light schedule under a Marshydro2 900W LED in a 4X4 Apollo horticulture grow tent. I want to acclimate to a light schedule for outdoors during mid march.

Any tips on how i can acclimate my light schedule to mother natures schedule wthout too much shock

p.s. 1 plant is bayred phenotype and the other 3 plants are "bagseeds". I also live in the norther VT.

I will post some picks when I get a minute.

Problem is this - you're in the northern hemisphere. March 20 is the vernal equinox where the day is exactly 12/12. After that however, the day quickly lengthens and night shortens. You'll need a minimum of 8-10 weeks for them to flower. Problem is the shortening night - just six weeks in, you're looking at only 5-6 hours of solid dark (and 1.5 hours of twilight). That's a recipe for Hermies.

ok. well this sucks. Instead of trying to go outdoor with my "starters". I might just switch to flower indoor and just hope for a decent yeild from seed for my outdoor crop.

any suggestion of threads or research i can check out to help me get some head start on the shorter grow season?

I grew a few plants last year. i started the plants around the end of april, and the plant started to flower around mid october. this only leaves me with about 6-8 weeks of warm weather for flower.

Thanks for the quick response NFHIGGS.

Yeah, you're going to have to finish them indoors.

Normal grow from seed to harvest is about 4 months. One month for seedling phase, one month in Veg, then two months to flower. I would say you are probably close to being ready to start flowering your starters you planted at the end of November.

Since you are pretty far north and have a relatively short outdoor growing season, you might want to consider autoflowering strains. These will automatically start flowering after about 6 weeks from seed - no matter what they are getting for light. So you could start them indoors in late Feb, move them outdoors in April, and they will be finished in midsummer instead of October.
