A lot of it depends on your setup and type of plant. I have seen folks doing See Of Green that starts flowering right away. Upward space and strain are factors as well.
I veg ten days from a rooted clone and still harvest a four foot tall plant. Not to say my method is the best, but it does work well for what I am doing:
Day one:
Ten days later:
If I let it go a month, it will out grow my setup.
A good rule of thumb for a new strain in your grow room is: Allow it to get a little less then half your target harvest height before switching the lights to flower cycle. Then make adjustments to veg the next time you grow that strain. If upward growth is very limited then your first run may need to be a bit more conservative during veg.
