Validity of 3 Day Dark Sexing?

I have a lot of outdoor plants that need sexing. I've heard from a few different sources that if you put your plants in 3 days of pure dark they will show their sex. I've also heard this light stresses plants and they may turn hermes. Anyone have any solid proof this is good? Or any insight to this..Im trying to get away from daily moving of 44 plants in 1 gallon pots, (pain in the ass) thanks in advance..

i think you take clones of the plants and put the in the dark to sex them, so you only stress the clones

not sure but thats what i thought

i heard as well you take clones after they root put into flower making sure you label them

why are you moving them daily? why not just let them do their thing and yank the males when they show?

Thanks for reply, I'll be transplanting them to 5 gal or bigger pots and dont want to waste time and soil on males like I did last year.

I dont think i would take a clone of a male in the first place, thanks anyway for replying...(so i heard this was an old hippy trick 3 day dark thing. Old pros chime in... Ed Rosenthal?)

i know people who have their plants on a veg cycle but put a light proof bag on a specific branch everyday after it's got about 12 hours of light. the sex eventually shows only on that branch. back before RIU redid its site, they had a how-to on presexing in the FAQ section. maybe try googling presexing? I really wish RIU hadn't gotten rid of that FAQ it had some awesome info on it. maybe its still here and im just missing it? i dont know man good luck

you don't have to wait for your sexing clone to root, just cut, label and flip.

take labeled cuttings and place in a glass of water only... you arent rooting them, put them in a cabinet or closet in total darkness with a light on a 12/12 timer, they should show between 10-21 days. Sometimes you can speed this up a little by doing a total darkout for three days, this is used in hydro to speed up the shift to flower but by itself won't cause the plants to show... it takes time.
also change the water every three to five days.
Ed Rosenthal recommends an advanced sexing technique for large quantities of seedlings using @470nm blue light at an intensity of 20-30 watts p.s.f. This sexes the plants without flipping them to full flower.
Just stick with the cuttings. Super easy... even a caveman can do it!
