I haven't used both but your plants will definitely benefit from the use of MH and HPS combined. During flower, your plants mostly need the red spectrum emitted from your lights. But flowering plants also benefit from the blue spectrum as well. It just makes more sense monetarily to invest in the spectrum that the plants will make more use of. They actually make dual lamps with both spectrums now. They're called Metal Sodiums if I remember correctly. Haven't heard any reviews yet though.

I'm currently using 1000w MH systems for my veg and plan to use (2) 600w HPS for my flowering stage. I have been vegging for 2 months and some of my plants are already 5 feet tall!...Through my knowledge and understanding from reading up on indoor growing....plants will benefit best if both MH and HPS is used because of the different light spectrums and lumens that both HID bulbs produce that the plant receives.

ok first of all when u start to flower ur gonna see alot of stretch and ur plant could almost double in size.... so ur lookin at monsters in side.... and second good luck getting good light pen. on monsters like that, ur gonna wanna supplementary light ur undergrowth with some cfl's or somethin

sorry to get off topic, i have also thought about this but i would rather not spend the money on the light bill on just an extra MH and would rather pay for another HPS and flower more plants... it cant be a new concept, and there must be a reason why its not utilized more, possibly for the exact reason i dont want too.

if i had the choice i would just use the m.h to veg the plants and the hps to flower but because these are the only lights that you have i would do the same thing........tyke..............................
