as long as it fits within a 4x4 area you should be alright..hi people .. thanks for all the replies .. hope all is well .. i have another question.. would a 400 watts hps be enough to flower 6 plants that have been LST???
thanks,
herbivious .. grow herb ..eat herb .. toke herb!!! peace
you will be ok but M H is better for veg. you can run a M H bulb in a H P S ballast. it does not have to be a conversion bulb either.... trust me..hey every1 .. i was just wondering how would it affect the plant if i used 400 HPS through out the whole grow?

REAAALLLLYYY NOW? Well I guess the worst that can happen is it'll burn out right? I wonder if a non conversion MH will burn out faster than a conversion MH perhaps? Will definitely try.... so what do you think about the height I put my 400 W HPS from my plants? It doesn't get overly hot and nothing is burning, just hoping it is getting enough juice, it's the 30% extra blue kind. Will a regular ass MH be as good as that for veggin?
ALSO, I need an expert opinion on this one... let's say I have people over and I really just need to put my closet door back on. Will one 42W daylight CFL provide enough light (lets say I do it for a day) so that they won't go into flowering? I heard that even the smallest amount of light will prevent flowering. I obviously can't leave my 400W on in a small space with no ventilation. Expert opinions!!
I have a 6'x7' with 1000 w hps set up i am in week 1 of vegging and they look healthy as can be but i have fluorescent bulbs accenting the light. my hps is about 2.5' away from tops and no bad results yet. my friend said that i should use a lower watt bulb for vegging 1/2 the wattage or less than what i will flower with? anyone have any experience in this situation?"Works fine. MH is best for veg, but HPS is damn good too." Exactly right.
I have an 8 x 8 room with a 1000W. set-up and I power through 4 or 5 grows a year. I used to
run the MH ballast and bulb while vegging, then switching ballast and bulb (a chore indeed) to
HPS for flowering. I worried that the MH set-up was a lot hotter than the HPS so I've been running the
flowering set-up through vegging and flowering. No fall off in size that I can see.
