i am currently growing in large shed type building (12 x 14 x 14) and i am trying to build a room inside a room essencial, mostly to control temps and the general atmostpheric conditions. it is getting cold outside and my temps are dropping inmy room. the room to me is way too big for my crop size; 14 2 week old plants under 1 1000w MH.

I am on a budget and getting dry wall or even plywood sheets is not an option for the dimentions i need. i only can get tarps at this point.

what i want to know is if i build a "room insid a room", walls and ceilking above my light (the ligh is hanging from a beam a few feet from the actual ceiling) would this be good enough to retain my heat and RH? i figure its got to be better then just in an open room.

any advice/help would be awesome, especially from experence.

i say start with a big box with the light above it then build a six 8' 2"x4" 8'X8' box (not to hang lights) buy 25x25 tarp cut to 8' lengths staple with batting to hold tight. get a tarp zipper door . raise and lower light to control heat within reason... stick heater for cold days run light at night when flowering

iso you think the tarps (from wal mart or harwear store) will be good enougb insulation? i`ll tottally make a box with light within, get a zipper for door. i am already running lights at night and currently have a heater.

as long as your heating that bitch hell yeah . just monitor your temps and adjust light to get optimal temp i have used 4'x8' R-10 wallboard pink insulation to keep a greenhouse going all winter

Do the words "fire trap" ring any bells?
really? how so. i highly doubt the plastic willo get that hot, their not gonna be too close to the light. and i will def be able to contorl the temps if they get too hot (whitch i doubt) by opening the "box" via zippen entrancve and also fan and intake ansd such

so all plastic grrenhouses with 100+ lights are what? safe?? all the varibles are the same as using a heater next to a pile of tarps
my thoughts exactl;y. i cant imagin they`ll get anything over 80-85 with the cold temps outsid4e now. right now wityhin the room my temps vart from low 60s to mid 70s

joedank is giving you the right idea, if you heat with the lights off it sounds like you will be fine. and what about all the people using pandafilm - i wonder if red1966 thinks thats a firetrap too. common sense is the best way to avoid fire, hell build everything out of matchsticks and newspaper, as long as you are cautious it doesnt matter. risk is risk and we all take it.

word...i will be heating when light is off, and monotoring the heat buildup as well. i just need something to keep my heat in, cause the space im workin with is too big and even with a heater in their my temps are still falling to low 60s during lights off, and it is going to get ALOT colder soon. i`m around the 47th parellel(northern maine)

Do you sit there and watch the thing all day? Or all night? No? So opening doors isn't really going to work out, is it? I'm just saying high powered lights and electric heaters in a small space with combustible walls is inherently dangerous. You need adequate clearance between your light and heater and any combustibles. Your heater should have a thermostat. You need to be sure any tarps are not going to sag or fall into the light or heater.

My flowering tent is made out of mylar stapled to a skeleton made of 2X2 and it's been in constant use for the last few years.
Just bear in mind that you'll be walking a line between venting out the smell and the heat going with it, but that will just take some tweaking to figure out...not a big deal. It's not as though it's in the house or anything.
Painters' drop cloths are also cheap, off-white, and treated so they're water resistant. They make a better curtain that the mylar, which is a bit flimsy for constant opening and closing. Tarps ought to work as well. The best tape to seal them is the red stuff made for vapour barriers - way better than packing tape or duct tape...except that it's red :)

Give 'er and ignore the haters, there seems to be a lot of them on here.

Hey dude...I have not read thru this thread, but I don't need to. What you have described is exactly what I have been doing here for many years. I have a large metal building (50' x 50') that I added a room into a corner of the building. The room (10' x 15' in my case) is framed with pvc pipe, a 30' x 12' tarp, and a spool of cloths line to weave through the tarp and arond the pipe as I go. Inside that room, I have veg and flower tents. I also live in very cold climates in the winter, so I have to add heat then. My grows have always been excellent, but I do have to take additional measures on moving air in and out. I just recently finished a grow and currently executing another. You have the right idea bro...just move the air at minimum. PeaceYou can view comparable expected results on my thread at:https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/693707-your-opinion-ready.html

i used 6ml contractors black plastic sheeting to make a room around my flower tent to be sure of no light leaking inside. 50.00 for a 100'x100' sheet.

I made a wall using three layers of the 3.5mil black plastic 10x25' for 10 bucks at HomeD. Three walls were already there. Stapled it to the ceiling joists and there's enough width remaining to fold generously at the bottom (loose at the bottom, just sits on the floor). So, I have a room within a room within the basement. OP, as long as your attachment points are solid, (no collapsing of the plastic) easy peasy.
