Do you have any idea of what a 3 bedroom apartment goes for in Brooklyn NY? Just look it up and then come back and make your stupid argument as to why folks shouldn't get $15.00 bucks @ hr. A shithole 3 bedroom will set you back $2,500-$3,000 @ month not including utilities then there is food (and I'll use your numbers) for a family of 4 $150-$200 @ wk that's $600-$800 @ month. Now there's childcare ( this is what my Daughter pays $175 @ wk for 2 kids and that's a bargain) clothing you have to buy add to that $233 for 2 - 30 day unlimited metro cards to get to work and back (again I use what my Daughter is paying).

That's why I spend so much time in NY, it's to help her out I cook, babysit during the week and sometimes weekends so my Daughter and Husband can work some OT. Folks making $15@hr have a hard time making ends meet let alone $9.25 @hr. And these are folks with families.

BTW my Daughter's rent just went up from $2,676.60 to $2,781.20 @ month for a 3 bedroom apartment at the beginning of the year. I'm here now.

Whoa, east coast prices are straight up insane. I'm paying less than half of that for my 5 bedroom home in a city Money Magazine recently called the number one place to live in the entire country.

I got no crime, weed is LEGAL, a thousand restaurants to choose from. We lack only Broadway, Times Square and the Giants... and they're all on TV.

And even though I live in the city, I can ride my bike from my front door to a national park, a national forest, thousands of acres of state parks, open space and dedicated bike trails. Try doing that from Queens, I dare ya!

Among others, you've convinced me that living back east is a sentence. But I'd love to visit the Big Apple and party!

Yes I went to college. But I've never done anything that required a college degree... Although I dont work with many people that dont have one.

You right about, that's why I got the fuck outa there prices are insane. Bought my house in Pa. When I first moved here 12 years ago my taxes were $1,300 a year now it's gone up to almost $3,900. I was renting a house from a friend of mine with an option to buy he was basically trying to push that house on me until I found out why, the taxes on it was $12,000 a year and we're going back almost 20 years, out on Long Island (Shirley) where flight 800 went down right off the shore.

When I tell someone the cost of living here I just say Google apartment rents here. But it is the city that never sleeps, it's 24 hours everything.

I may live in the country but home will always be NYC!

My moms is still there you couldn't pry her from there with a crowbar she's got a home in Florida that's where she wanted to go when she retired now that she is she makes all kinds of excuses why she won't move down there.

Folks making 7 or 8 an hour qualify for a lot of government assistance. At 15 youre on your own. No subsidised housing. No food stamps.

They would be no better off and so many others wouldn't either, in your NYC example.

My mortgage is just over 900 a month for a 2800as ft house. The people I bought the house from made mother in law quarters out of the basement. 1 br1 bath and a kitchen. I get 550 a month for that, and 33% of the utilities.

So if I were poor in NY I would move. Shit if I didn't make 500k I wouldn'tt move to NYC.

Tell us, why are those apartments so high in rents ? Is it not true that when apartments are in the rage of the average worker, they still sell ?

The problem you describe is coming from a landlord, and most are absent or foreign.

Trust me city life is not for everyone and moving for some folks is not an option.

Life always gets better in NY with a Democratic Governor four of which became President the last was FDR. You had Mario Cuomo who many thought he she run and now his Son Andrew who just might be one day. Pataki was a pos Republican who ran for President this year but nobody liked or knew him well.

Min wage going from $9.25 in the city to $15 makes living in the city more affordable fuck subsidies people in NY have pride.

As long as NY keeps the reputation of being the center of the universe and attract wealthy folks from across the globe wanting to come here rents will continue to rise.

Trump is just the the latest real estate mogul what sets him apart from all the others is his flamboyance but as a businessman he's an underachiever, Harry Helmsley his wife was Leona the queen of mean they were worth wayyy more and was wayyyy better than Trump he never went bankrupt. Just about every major building in NY has the Helmsley name on it.

We could get some agreement on that. College has helped me in a personal way. Perhaps having a degree has helped open doors for me.

But there are select few careers that actually require a degree. Most stuff just requires getting to work on time every day and getting along and being a team player. Doing that with a good attitude can get you far.

But the prisons are crazy. One thing you say a lot is true. This nations criminal justice system has a staggeringly disproportionate effec on black men. Rich white people who own prisons are making bank on mass incarceration of the poor. Theyre usually black too.

That's for NYC probably the most expensive place to live in America. I been there once stuck waiting on the bus no desire to go back people are fucked in NYC just all stuck in the rat race fuck that shit I like to target shoot out my windows, go fishing, hunting and I don't even need a bike for that shit miles of trails and you won't see a single person 99% of the time. But I drive 45 minutes to Walmart there is a lot of money to be made if you own land which is pretty hard to find a good place for a good price.
