I think it would be easier for the government to shut off access to the economy for dissidents, which is exactly how they would use it
It's a concern for me + it seems like government = red tape even when you paid for the benefit. Insurance companies are like that too.

I just discovered through a client that the bank Bill Pay system immediately withdraws checks written even though the check has not been cashed. Some of the checks she wrote haven't been deposited for months and may never get deposited. That's ripe for fraud.

Debit cards are linked to financial institutions that self-regulate.
How would that be any different than a digital asset issued by the government?
Still not the same..but you go ahead and let me know how you like it.
I have some crypto still. Luckily for me I sold most of it right before the last great dip, so everything still in my wallet is profit. That said, I don't think govt issues digital assets is a good idea, nor do I think it will catch on. Who would possibly benefit from that? Not the wallet holder, that's for sure. It's just one more form of government control. No thank you, I'll pass.

When you initiate a bill pay with a check being the means the recipient is paid with (Individuals or businesses without an electronic receiving address) the withdrawal creates a cashiers check. This is a benefit, as instead of waiting for a check to be negotiated, you can show proof of payment in the event of a dispute or lost check immediately. Also the check won’t expose your actual account number as it is drawn off an internal bank account.

Banks/credit unions can provide proof of payment or place stop payments on those bill pays that are lost at your request

This is a situation where the vendor is receiving the check but just throws it in a drawer because it is inconsequential to him (very wealthy) and I believe he is trying to be altruistic to my client so that she stays in business. He likes that business. That money should be in her account, not the bank's.

Another part of the equation is some checks will never be cashed for various reasons. That is the part that leaves it open to fraud.

President Joe Biden signed an executive order on cryptocurrency Wednesday, marking the first concrete steps by the White House to regulate digital currency. Bitcoin and Ethereum saw initial price surges following news of the executive order, but both fell back within a matter of hours.

Think about Gift Cards and the cash that gets left on them..literally the biggest scam next to putting your money on someone's app like Starbucks.

Why would you give them your money to make money off of?

Postal service is one of the best deals out there. Checks are just annoying. I hate it when I write one, and it's not deposited for a month and a half later. I avoid writing them like the plague.
I write one with the understanding you cash/deposit within a day or so. I hate outstanding checks.

Was there the other day for a MO and a book of Otter stamps.
