This week, we will very likely have the first vote to outright end federal marijuana prohibition.
The House Judiciary Committee has posted a markup for HR 3884, the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act on Wednesday,
November 20th and they will likely hold a vote on the same day.

This has never happened in the history of our country and it is thanks to all the time and
effort folks have put in for DECADES. The MORE Act isn’t just some half measure either.
It contains many of the important reforms we have always wanted to see at the federal level.
Not only will it remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act entirely,
but it will also require federal courts to expunge prior marijuana-related convictions,
provide grants and funding to communities most harmed by our failed war on cannabis consumers,
and finally allow physicians affiliated with the Veterans Administration
to recommend medical cannabis to veterans.

The American people are overwhelmingly on our side and ready to end our failed
prohibitionist policies and lately more and more elected officials are joining them. However,
we NEED your help to get this legislation approved. We cannot allow this opportunity to pass us by,
we need to show members of Congress that their constituents are demanding real change.

Update: The MORE Act was approved in the Judiciary Committee on November, 20th, 2019 with a bipartisan vote of 24-10.

The Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act (HR 3884 / S. 2227) is bipartisan legislation that removes marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act, thus decriminalizing the substance at the federal level and enabling states to set their own policies.

The Act would also make several other important changes. For example, it permits physicians affiliated with the Veterans Administration to make medical marijuana recommendations to qualifying veterans who reside in legal states and it incentivizes states to move ahead with expungement policies that will end the stigma and lost opportunities suffered by those with past, low-level cannabis convictions. If approved, the MORE Act also allows the Small Business Administration to support entrepreneurs and businesses as they seek to gain a foothold in this emerging industry.

The MORE Act is the most comprehensive marijuana reform bill ever introduced in the US Congress. Crafted by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (NY) and carried in the Senate by Sen. Kamala Harris (CA), the bill is backed by a broad coalition of civil rights, criminal justice, drug policy, and immigration groups.

I wouldn't get too excited people......the republicans still hold the majority in the senate and McConnell will let this collect dust on his desk.....just like the other 270 bills submitted to the senate by the house dems since January.
I read an article that said the same.. Sounded like they were gunna vote on it, but the likelihood of passing was slim to none.
It was called a waste of time because there were more measures with bipartisan support that may actually get passed.
Fuck em all on capitol hill. Change on a state level, and them not reaping any tax benefits will drive them to do it eventually.

Do we really want that?

It has to be voted on in 6 more times before it even hits the floor of the House. Sadly the pharmaceutical co.s won't let it happen it's not the Republicans. It's all about the $$ and both sides take plenty of it.

Forget about our inept governing bodies and their ridiculous morality-dictating decisions on cannabis usage....grow and use whatever plant you would like to and stop stressing, just be stealthy and quiet about it.
Sorry but “get out and vote” and “free the weed”, state medical programs, etc. are all great progress, but again, this is a plant not a crime, not a sin and not anyone’s decision but your own. The Feds should not be telling us its the same as heroin, the states should not be telling us we can/can’t grow or smoke it, or who is sick enough to do so.....bullshit.....can you imagine all this for coffee, chocolate, roses or cinnamon? Jeezus...
