Upgrading my Light

I have $160 to get the best possible light upgrade for my 2x2 tent.

I've looked at 300W LED's, 150-250W HPS and I feel lost and am not sure what to get?

My next grow is going to be my first scrog in an attempt to maximize my yield in such a small space. What would the more experienced growers of rollitup recommend?

Note: I've looked at the DIY COB LED's but cannot find a comprehensive tutorial or list that spells out what I need and need to do, I'm kind of dumb in that fashion.

I think personally that for the money and space you have you can get a pretty good 300w led (about 148 true watts) for around 70$ on eBay. You could also find a good hps system for about 20$ more but I'd be worried about exhausting the heat. Also the LED can generally be used for all parts of grow and keeps the node spacing short.

Also building a DIY COB can run pretty expensive from the start to get the equal par quality as what's on the market

Go one ebay, find a 100w cob kit, so you get the driver and the cob chip, there £10 max thats $20 posted don`t pay anymore

Get an old cpu heatsink or a large ally heatsink and use thermal cement to glue the cob chip into the heatsink

Then connect the driver

2 wires + and - go one the led chip

Wire up the driver to a plug, connect the earth to the heatsink just incase

you could add an on/off switch

Plug it in, if your heatsink is under 50mm x 50mm you`ll probably need a fan, but you can put it in front of your in or out fan or any fan just to test it

Once you`ve made one its easy

Just like them old 12v halogen spotlamps you even get some push on kits for the chips and wires now days but I use thermal glue and solder because its cheaper and don`t require any screws or drilling

but I nabbed 3 x 150w cob van Q`s for £100 to £130`ish the otherday, a wee bit more than I`d pay to make a 450w but saved me a lot of time

FYI your average "300w" led light is only going to use between 100w and 200w at the plug so check what it uses not what they call it you want to know the "consumption or actual wattage used"

but yeah just to learn buy a cheap led and driver combo and play with it

Hell buy a 10 to 30w cob and driver for like £5 and wire that up

Then you`ll be like "Oh its easy as fuck"

plus then you can add cob`s to other types of lamps too.........

Go on amazon buy a 600 watt hps/mh lamp hood. Dim it down to 300 watts and youre good. Also get a 6" fan. This way if you decide to upgrade you already have your kit. If you choose a quality led you wo.t get much for that money. And avoid the cheap ebay leds.

LED or a 600w dimmable off ebay. You should be able to get a dimmable digital with bulb and hood for that. Although more heat and amps with that.
