Hi guys, im using 2x 125w cfl at the moment. Thinking of either switching them for 250ws as a cheap option but I could swap for a 400w hid?
Ventilation is all sorted, just need a temp controler for my exhaust fan.
Will b growing in coco this time, just waiting for smart pots and nutes :)
Whats your thoughs guys?

23 watt cfls have the best heat/lumen/watt ratio.....I run 750 watts of cfl and find it almost the same as my 600watt cool tube(not really 600 though with ballast)....
But only slightly less yield off the cfl..I do prefer the bud to hps bud even though its not as dense.. perhaps look into cmh or something . But don't go big bulbs they just get worse, at that point yea just get hps

Personally, if the ventilation was already taken care of, I'd go with a 600w dimmable HID. MH if you veg, and HPS for flower. Buy a dual-purpose ballast (most are).

Like Qwiz said you'd eventually be running more watts for less yield.. and when you get up there those CFLs start kickin off heat also. So in the end you're not saving on electricity, you're still battling heat issues, and an HID set will pay for itself when you're yield goes up exponentially.

I do vouch for this, as I've done both. Again, so long as ventilation is in place of course.

Sound guys, 600w hid would b way to much for my 60cm (d) x 150cm (w) 180cm (h) room :) just need a temp fan control & ill go for hid ;)

That's bigger than what I use my 600 in
And I have 750 watts of cfl in 20x26"
We are trying to imitate the sun...7k lumens per sqft

HID. Check prices between 400 and 600w, you might be able to get into a 600 on sale for what a regular priced 400 would cost. If you can, do it. :-)

Only £20-30 difference between the 400w/600w :) would it b worth getting a 600w with a dimmable ballast & run 400w bulbs? Also have to think about electric bills..
