up to date discussion on water filtration

Greetings fellas. I'm hoping we can get a discussion on what is currently the best option for water filtration.

My towns water is very heavy with metals and chlorine(I believe is what it is).

Right now I'm doing a FF OF soil grow. 6 5 gallon buckets. Lst 600 watt.

first how much water do you need a day ? before we suggest a 500 dollar unit a 50 dollar unit may work well for you .

I think ideally around 10 gallons a day would be nice. Preferably fast enough that I wouldn't be tending it for 5 hours to get it done each day. That leaves a gallon for each of the 6 5 gallon buckets plus some extra.

I bought a 5 stage for around 100$ from Amazon. Ran it to a 55 res with a float value, added a tap near the bottom. I'm sure you could do it with a smaller res but I already had this one.

One thing though, water sitting in a res looses some do.

Thanks for the input guys. I had one of those 5 filter 100$ ones. It was slow as molasses. On a good day it might do a gallon in 45 minutes. Left it out for a winter accidentally and all the lines became brittle and cracked. My own fault, but that has led me to looking for something hopefully a little faster.

I think that Hydro-logic filter looks like a pretty good setup for my purpose. I'm going to do some more research on it and see what the replacement filters go for. I'll also keep looking around and do comparisons. I'll report back with what I wind up deciding on.

Right now I'm using Poland Spring at about 5$ per 5 gallons. not a ton of money but I anticipate these plants using lots of water in the height of flower. Especially int he summer months as I have passive intake/cooling. I'm figuring, conservatively I think, that I'll need a gallon a day at most for each plant. That's 6 gallons a day potential. So If I could get 8-10 gallons in an hour's time I would be pretty happy.
