Hey there, I'm a first time grower. I'm growing a "bag seed" which has went 10 weeks into flowering and still looks to me to have at least 2 weeks to go, which tells me it's deffo a heart sativa (I think). I'm growing under 11 24w cfl's, which is probably overkill for the one plant, temps are sitting at 75 n humidity is about 30%. She growing in soil n being fed "greendream 1" nutes. The problem I have is she became infested with fungus gnats which I took care of by adding 2 inch of builders sand to the top of my soil. She then started showing signs of mites 6 weeks into flower, which I took care of by spraying with a spray I made up of garlic, chilli, tobacco, and soap liquid. This destroyed the mites but also very nearly killed the plant too so I gave her a spray of watter and nutes, which literary burnt the shit out her. Every single leave now shows signs of nute burns!!. I flushed her with 20 litres of ph water n cut out all nutes since. What I need to know is should I trim off all burnt edges on the leaves or should I leave alone?? And with her being pretty close to finishing up (I hope) should I reintroduce nutes or just keep going with the water till the final flush?? P.s she is one ugly bitch now but she does have A LOT of pretty buds which are still shooting pistils (will she EVER finish). Many thanks fellow greenfingers

first off DONT cut the leaves. you will get alot better help if you have a pic. so we can see whats going on. and how bad it is.

If you had mites, spraying once isn't going to do anytihng except kill some of the adults. Did you actually see mites, or did you just assume? If you saw mites, and identiied which kind of mite it was, let us know. Different mites sometimes need different treatments.

If it was the common spider mite, you need to do some reasearch about how to deal with them. If your in week 6 of flower I wouldn't spray my plants with anything! Espeically since once application isn't going to solve your problem, and it may actually make it WAY worse...

If you have spider mites, you need to treat them every 3 days, at least 3 times. If you have a bad infestation, I would recommend doing it every 3 days for two weeks. You need to kill the adults, then all the eggs that hatch - which usually takes about 3 days - thus why you need to spray every 3 days to make the treatment effective. If you spray once, you will kill MOST of the adults, but the ones left behind, who were naturally more resistant to the insecticide of your choice, will live on and bred mites that aren't effected by the same insecticide at all...super mites! It's really important that you understand the life cycle of the insect you are trying to eradicate!

BUT...week 6 into flower...I would make a decision depending on how bad the infestation was to either chop now or just ride it out. I would not use any insecticide during flowering, ONLY PREDATORY MITES.

This is very good advice, however, unless your posting pics of some huge grow, or always posting about selling, I really wouldn't be concearned...but I would disable 'geotracking' in the settings on your camera phone eitherway

^^^this is all assuming you actually had mites and not some deficiency or other problem

Yeah it was deffo mites,, I saw a few and noticed small yellow bite marks on leaves which alerted me to them. I sprayed it for two weeks whilst also rubbing down leaves with a damp sponge. They deffo seem to be gone now but as I said I did damage the plant trying to bring it back to health

Bummer on the mites. It looks like you have severly burned your plants as well. If your still using the same dose of base nutes, I would cut back big time. Try giving them just water the next few times and then start using your nutes at half the strength you were.

That bag seed is definitely a sativa or sativa dominant strain and by the looks of it could go at least 10 weeks now that i've seen pictures.

Keep an eye out for more insects and do some research on predatory mites, which can be used during flowering with no ill effects to plant or person.

A little tip for fungus gnats - let your medium get really really really dry - dry enough that your leaves start to wilt. Do this a coulple times back to back and it will cause a sever decline in their population.

P.S - I think this crop is totally salvagable at this point, just cut back on the nutes and be diligent about checking for insects. If I were you I would order some predatory mites to have on hand in case the come back with avengence!

Stay green, keep up the good work - whenever I have an issue growing I always tell myself that it's part of the fun/hobby and will make me a better grower in the long run, so don't get discouraged. You'll be more than prepared if/when something like this happens again

Yeah as I said it's gone 10 weeks in flowering already,, but it was heavily stunted due to my harsh treatment for the pests. I did dry my soil a few times but the gnats kept returning hence why I used the sand which worked like a dream but it does take a lot longer now for my soil to dry between feeds. I not using ANY nutes now, just water. Do you think I should just leave the nutes altogether now seen as it only has two weeks or so to go??.and as advised above I shouldn't trim back burnt leaves??..too late to think about predatory mites or ladybirds now I think, ,, she must be close to the chop now eh?..cloudy trikes but no amber,, am I correct to think that some sativa don't produce amber trikes?..Many thanks
