How long are you vegging for..? What nuitrient line are you feeding ? What the PH set to? Grow room temps day and night ? and how many time did you top...and how far from the canopy is your light..?also how much did you defoliate...and when ???
5week dwc veg
Dutch pro A&B plus dutch pro explode
Ph 5.8 res changed weekly
25-29 day temps night temps 15-20 in summer
Topped once
Defoliated mostly all lower bud sites and fan leaves
Light usually close enough so not hot for my hand
2weeks into flower defoliated

It's not difficult to do, you just need to be careful that you don't bend too hard and snap branches. I wait until my plants have 6 nodes, then I top the plants above the 3rd node, and remove the nodes below the 3rd node (but leave the fan leaves). Then I wait until the two remaining shoots are a few inches long and then I gently pull them down and stake them to the soil. As they grow longer I just keep adding steaks. Sometimes I will only top once and sometimes I will top twice and do the same thing to the ends of the two main shoots.

This is how mine look a couple of days after I start the process:

and this is how they look as I keep staking them down

I manifolded my first go around and got a bumper crop. Its all about veg time and maximizing the lights potential. Would you be willing to add 2 weeks to veg to double your yield?

Do you have any pics so I or we can see how the plants were structured etc..?

Its just knowing how to break that barrier into the .75 1 gram/w
The light is a part of how to hit those numbers but environment is a bigger. You can have the best light, but without a great environment your not going to hit the goals. Reason i moved on from a tent to a sealed room.

Forget a set number of weeks in veg.

try 4 plants per 4x4 area/light
veg as long as it takes to fill that space in a way that is not over crowded.
Maybe consider topping an extra time or super cropping your mains at flip in the direction of any open spaces.

With HID growing Metal halide makes a big difference in veg in comparison to just HPS, the closer those internodes are the more buds per branch.

5 weeks from seed isn't a lot of veg time for 6,7 plants. From clone it would be a different result.
Just allow them more time.

Fan on controller?
Do you vent during the day?

Proper venting during lights out is just as critical as day venting.

Good info all thru this writeup.

Ok thanks for the advice i was leaning towards having a go at manifolding or do you think you can get good results just letting them grow un trained, i use a 300w cfl in veg also
