Union Teachers Say The Hell With Students

A single yet compelling counterpoint: "must live in or near Chicago". cn
Fair enough, but it honestly seems like they're painting all public teachers in a negative light. As if it's the job that's the problem.

Also, I believe a few of the opposition have stated they are in fact in or around the Chicago area

If it's so bad, why don't they quit?
My guess would be because they spent anywhere between 4-6 years of their life earning an education degree in order to actually become a teacher.

Would you want to throw 4-6 years of your life away because a group of bureaucrats you've never met are making decisions on the future of your career?

So why don't you become a public school teacher if you believe it's such a great job?

Not to mention the irony in complaining about public teachers earning more for the job they do, when athletes and movie stars are walking away with hundreds and even thousands of times more than that.

Not a peep.

What a convincing argument this is..

i hate the glorification of celebriteies . . . .people care more about the new celebs baby and what its wearing for 1k then paying a teacher a fair wage to raise and educate the next generation of American citizens . . . its what i laugh at , and most of the world does too

America is a joke, only people who dont think this way are americans . . . . what country are we currently behind in on math science and reading scores . . last i checked which was a while ago we were trailing to emerging third world countries . . .. its pathetic

First off, I never said it was a great job. I never even said it was a good job. What I did say was that at 50k a year,
that equates to about $25/hr, plus bennies, time off, indoor work, and is very stable.

All for doing what they went to college for. They are actually kind of lucky....they have the job they wanted. If they didn't want that job, they shouldn't have applied for it.

your argument is akin to "if you don't like america, you can get out!"

it's fallacy.

the teachers want to do more than simply program kids to pass a standardized test, but if they object to this, they must quit teaching according to you.

who made you grand poobah there?

Nope!
According to me, If they don't like teaching in Chicago.....they can teach elsewhere.

there isn't really any escape from the standardized tests.

yes, i am,

Boss's as a term is as vague as can be so ill assume you mean management, and there job is not to define wages

but its to mange the business, make sure it works as is designed and is effieint

i am for a wage that is fair to its contributions to society

and yes when celebrities and athletes make billions every year while our schools and general education gets worse and worse

ther is def. a mis balance there of proirites . . .NFL leage just settled in a money sharing dispute didnt they?, do you happen to know the outcomes . . . .

wonder if it will be the saem for the teachers . . .

I'm not talking about quitting over the testing, I'm talking about the other variables.
The gangs, drugs, rapes, assaults, uninvolved parents, or any other danger involved with working or living in that area.

the point of contention is the standardized testing though.

the no child left behind law was a shady way to let the education system slip . . it basically focerd school programs all over the country to lower their standards

when i was 18 i tested at liek th 92 percentile for math . ..12 years later i went back to school . . .i tested higher, hadn't used fundamental math in forever . .how does that work and that higher test school correlated to my science and English and comprehension skills . . is BS

Depends how good of a waitress she is...LOL!
its one of those, im jsut joking, but your not really joking . . . .

my girl is the best welder in her program this quarter . . . .a number of older asshats said they would never work for her, when the teacher proposed the scenario of young new go getters getting position from older and lazier welders
