uv light is used for sterilization the only negative effect i could imagine it having is something to do destroying dna in seeds.
Google "Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation"
with that said i dont think it would hurt the plant (during the day cycle). UV comes from the sun anyway right?
i feel the diversity of spectrums is important and supplementing HID lighting only helps.
so unless your breeding or standing under your lights all day then i dont think it would be negative.
edit- good possibility that even if it did help it would be so minuscule that you could contribute it to any number of factors.

Thanks guys by the way im using a 300w dual spectrum cfl bulb and just wanted to make my weed a bit more potency by seeing if i can use a ultra violet light ill read more on it fanks

Happy to help. UV isn't used very often in any time of gardening scenario. Infared is used. The led lights I currently have in my garden have several IR diodes. They aren't visible to the human eye but what is visible is the growth on the plants.

I wouldn't use the U.V. light for the entire 'lights on' cycle either... just thought I'd add that in.

You'll need to give the U.V. light its own cycle.. but of course, make sure you add in its own cycle while the other lights are in their 'lights on' time/cycle.

I'm sure you already were aware of that, but then again.. I've seen some incredibly goofy posts before. So, ya never know...

But yeah, also I wouldn't give the U.V. lights cycle more than 2 to 4 hrs (4 being the max) of operating time, per each cycle.

Just my personal thoughts.

good luck.

UVB is what you want in your room. Its actually been proven to promote higher THC content in your plants. From what I have read and seen most people will run it (as someone said before) for 4-6 hours.
