UK Lighting Issue

Does anyone happen to know where I can get hold of a Y shapped splitter to use with CFL's?

I cant find them anywhere in the UK, a few US sites have them but the shipping makes them impractical.

Its just a Y shaped adapter to turn a socket that holds a single lamp into a double socket holding 2 lamps....

i know what you mean mate i wanted them when i was growing with cfl's. but it aint gonna happen unless you do what you said and get them from the US:wall:

its all to do with our stupid saftey laws and that the US use 120 volt and not the 240v like we do

if you did get some im not 100% sure if they are ok with our voltage running through them, i cant help you on that one though.

cheers

Arse! Why is everything so feckin complicated! I'm pulling my hair out here!

Perkie, I think the item you linked too is just a trailer part and as such would just burn out if you ran it on mains electricity. Thanks anyway tho :)

Hey mate. Unfortunately we can not get them in the UK for love nor money and nor will they work if you import.

Thats genius, why didnt I think of Wilkos! Perkie you may just have saved the day! Now, whats the chances you can strike it lucky twice in a row.... Wheres the best/cheapest place to buy 26w daylight CFL's in the UK?

Tamjam - Just checked out your AK48 CFL's, nice! Had you them all wired up together or on seperates? Did you manage to pick up the lamps cheaply? I can find the warm white 26w jobs cheap enough (£2.50ish) but the daylights are nearer a tenner a piece! Harsh!

I think Tamjam used regular Tesco branded energy savers, they can work out really cheap to get a lot of bulbs (I bought 36 11w bulbs for less than £4!)

Personally I recommend the 65w bayonet cap CFLs (get 'em off eBay, tenner a pop, but worth it) and the e40 9u bulbs (again eBay, prices from £19.99-£29.99 depending on output between 150w and 300w).

I'm a new grower and have done ALOT of reading on the lighting side as much as any other and personally calculate that for veg at least (since I've yet to flower) a centrally located e40 CFL with a couple of side lighting 65w or several side lighting lower wattage CFL will give you your best bang for the buck.

I'm comparing side by side with a mate who is a long time grower using HPS and from clones from the same stock I am getting MUCH stronger results in veg. Over the last few days I have taken a couple of his 'failures' which weren't going anywhere, moved them to my box and watched them take off. He is going to be making changes on his next grow as a result.

Tamjam's setup was great, imo. Im a fan :)

Hey Spindles, thanks for the input :)

My plan was to use 26w bulbs all the way, running as many at once as necessary. I'm not planning to have a massive yield as i'm not a heavy smoker, even if I ended up with an oz i'd be happy. Gastanker showed me his setup with 26w's at said it worked great, but he's from the US and as such its proving a bitch to replicate what he did....

Yeah, it's perfectly do-able. I think Tesco will be cheaper than b&q for your mid 20w bulbs, I get basic bayonet fixings for 99p, but you are probably looking at 2 quid per light for decent fixable sockets like Tamjam uses, which would be best. Personally I would say that rather than building a big ass collection from the start you are best starting off with 2-4 and then adding in pairs, spreading the light placement as the plant(s) grow out.

I've got 3 days off work myself, so I'm indulging in a little rebuild and rejig of my box, going to build a small, low wattage veg box at the same time, so I'm shopping for much the same as yourself right now.

Hey guys. I was in Asda the other day couldn't find a kelvin rating on them whatsoever but go
and take a look. £1 for a 30w 4 bend cfl. Bayonet fitting. Always worth a look I was going to get some for veg

I've just got back from Wilko's and have semi good news. They have the cheapest batten lamp holders anywhere @ 79p each! And I managed to pick up 4 x 23w Warm White CFL's for 97p each. Nothing stronger than that tho, checked Sainsburys, QD, Focus & Homebase. Rubbish. No daylights either
