Tying branches down with twine?

Not sure if anyone has done this, but i was told by a few people that by tying your plant down you will get bigger buds? now where my plants are, i will have two fish in my soil before i put my plant down.... Not sure if its worth it.... so if anyone can tell me if the buds will grow to be bigger if more sunlight like tyingthem down, or maybe there is no difference? plz an information will help and i mean anything thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tying down does work, but im not so sure about it increasing bud size.. what it is mostly used for is to control taller plants that maybe running out of vertical space.. but it does have an added benefit, like you had said, it will increase the light penetration into the canopy of the plant and therefore i could possibly see some of the lower nugs getting a lil bigger..
also, it would all depend on how far you tied her down.. i would think that if you tied the top growing tip lower than the rest of the growing tops, it could redistribute the auxins and would therefore grow more than one main cola like what you would get from topping a plant.. pretty much the same theory really, just not exactly sure on the details of it.. i think it could be worth doing as long as you are gentle and don't break any branches in the process..

Well said racerboy. LOL There really isn't much you can do to make the plant yield more or bigger buds, but topping, and super cropping. i can't wait to see the results of that when I do it. HaHa

yea i see what your saying...... but if you could explain on how to maybe do the process that would be great... and maybe the pros and cons on topping and super cropping? and maybe on how to do it?

All ya do is make an anchor tie around the bottem of the stalk and then gently bend the plant over the opposite way and keep tying the shoots down, and arrange them the way you want, it takes some practice but you'll get the hang of it.

do you tie it down through out veg, or right before you flower?

i tie mine down about 2 or 3 nodes down from the top. height is a problem in one of my flower areas. made my plant look like a cats tail. i tie it off at the bottom and let her grow. her top will trun back up in a few day

i tie a ton of fishing weights to my branches to get them to spread out and spread evenly also helps to create space between brances for more light penetration without restricting the plant by tieing it down. also with a good fan those weights bouncing around helps strengthen the stem/branches for sure. something you dont get with tieing to a fixed spot.

certain strains like this and certain strains it stresses them out too much. in my experience ive found that purple kush does not like to be bent or tied down as the rest of the plant will suffer. i recently tried to bend the entire stalk to the soil where the tip of the plant was touching the soil to see what would happen. it didnt like this very much and started to die. in my opinion plants like to be able to move around freely and not just sit in a fixed position. ive also seen people perfect this technique and it turned out amazing. id go with weights unless you have plently of lateral space. it all depends on your setup/lights and space. and how much more time you're willing to watch it grow =D

ok sooo i have another question or two..... nice buds by the way... when do u tie them down and how.. yours look pretty good i am growing them outdoors in pots, near a lake prolly stake and tie to ground?

Welcome to the world of LST (low stress training). This method is used in place of "topping" or "cutting" the top growing colas of your plants. cutting causes stress tot the plants, and can slow down growing time, where as tieing them over does not, which is a great grea thing!! What it does is, when you tie down the main shoot of the plant, is it causes 2 or more of the lower shoots to begin to grow and become main tops. Now instead of one main cola, you have 3 or more. You can do this many times as you want. The trick is to try and get all of them to be the same height. This way when you go to flower, all the main colas will each recieve about the same amount of light, and will hopefully all be big fat buds for you. Good luck. It sounds like you're on the right trach.

wow thanks alot guys..... any tips on growing send me a pm or post on this i can use any knowledge ove hearing others opinions on any topic concerning growing cannabis

i tend to think that tieing them down does slow down growing time in two ways. one it stresses the plant slightly and also you have to wait longer for those tied branches to re-route themselves and start growing up. just speculation i've never tied down my branches. ive tied down a top before and it definitely slowed down the growing process.
