you just getting home ? How's those cuts doing. Threw my back out yesterday watering in the Hoop house. Gimping around. Moved my 3 gal DWC to the water cooler and started a Spirtual punk in the other one. Got a plan I think. I can vegg in 3 gal DWC buckets and move the tops to water cooloers for flowering ? Hey Alota what do you think about ditching my hoods and going vert bulbs?

only worked a hour.. then they asked if I wanted to go home.. I said surrreeeee lol. Nothing better to do :). I was thinking about starting a debate on the socal thread.. about vertical vs non air cooled vs air cooled hoods.... but I dont know if I wanna type all damn day .. i have pictures and journals of all 3 type of grows .... each had their plus and minus's..

Any Roots in that water yet??

yes the first one is just starting to drop. Theres some long ones out the sides and the bottom ones are coming. Your cuts looking good ? I just don't understand how I could stay cool with no hoods and not run the AC all day My garage gets 80-90 + in the summer time. I'm open for a debate. lol Dropped my TDS to around 300 .

Can you elaborate real quick on + or -'s ?

In a nut shell.. the vert gave me tons of yeild but was a pain in the ass to keep the plants from growing into the bulbs.. not including that the vert bulb took up some of my floor space.. Wouldnt work for my size room.. I would of had to make a cage or something to keep the plants from growing into the bulbs..... The open hoods worked well when I was using 400's.. heat wasnt bad .. could kinda point a fan across the bulb and towards my exhaust and things stayed decent..... Once I went to the bigger lights.. I could keep temps in check .. but I had to have my hoods about 3-4 ft above my plants in order to prevent them from bleaching and burning the top colas.. the light was brighter but my lumen meter read less then it does now .... The air cooled hoods with the big 8 inch fan allows me to set my hood RIGHT above the plants.. I can palm the glass and it doesnt burn my hand .. So I know I lose a little light with the glass from the hood.. but I clean the glass at least once a week and Im able to keep the light MUCH closer to the plants.. so I think its a wash.... but why I ultimately decided to stay air cooled is because I didnt have to cool the entire room as much ....

Ideally if I had a lot of space I would run verticle bulbs in cool tubes.. 2-3 600 watters in each tube from floor to ceiling.. but since I only have 32 sq ft of flowering room and floor space it wont work for me at this time .. maybe in a bigger room in a bigger setup .. also with vertical I had to grow big tall trees ... I dont have that much room for veg.. plus I dont like vegging long because its just more electricity. I have seen people remedy this by building a stadium or stair setup so the plants are staggard.. but that would just take up more room in my limited flowering space.. so for me .. the air cooled hoods work the best.. at this time lol.

I should do a thread on my experiences with all 3 grows.. because they all were so much different. Just make sure if you stay air cooled.. that you constantly clean that glass.. A nice hepa filter on your intake will keep alot of the dust out of your hoods.. Or if your carbon scrubber is inline that will help as well ...

If you have the room to set it all up .. its realllllly good.. nothing like having huge cola's on the whole plant instead of the top.. but it does take up alot of room and takes alot of planning ...

You don't have to run them top to bottom right ? what about vert just above the canopy ?

Well in my opinion the whole purpose of running them vertical is to increase your yield from the base of the plant to the top.. you no longer get just get fat colas .. all the side branching becomes pretty large as well because it receives the same amount of light as the top of the plant. I suppose you could run bare bulbs hanging .. But you would have to make sure the plants or your skin never contacts them.. or your gonna have a scar. WHats the purpose if you dont get the larger yield from running the bulbs from bottom to top? All you doing is allowing more heat into your room that you have to exhaust or cool. IF your purely just trying to get more lumens to the plant.. you can just increase the speed of your fan and drop the air cooled hoods right ontop of them... which negates removing the glass and having to keep them higher up to not burn the plants... The reason most grows have moved to air cooled hoods is because the amount of heat the bulb emits is most efficiently removed in a closed system not allowing it to enter the grow area.

Now if we lived in a mild climate area where keeping the grow room WARM was hard.. then I see no drawback from running uncooled hoods.. but this is socal.. all we fight is heat.. we live in a desert .. so I see no real reason to adding more heat that you have to pay to remove very inefficiently with a portable AC..

Also using CO2 becomes alot harder as well if you cant exhaust the bulb heat independently .....

Im so bored. My back hurts but is masked by vicodine that made me feel like crap. Can't think of any gardening to do. I have a new High Times to read but our light in the bedroom sucks for reading and my reading glasses coupled with Vicodine don't really work, Messes with my eyes. Wawawwa ! lol

Start another DWC bucket. lol

Ahhh Yessssss ! Perky is good. That's the first step in my book. I know they'll root for you for sure if they missed my droop stage. lol

Cool beans!
