Hey guys im new to the forum and new to growing. Im constructin a grow box in my attic as we speak. Im working with a 8x8x9 foot area and i was wondering what lights to put in. I originally was going to put in two 600w lights but my friend said two 1,000s would be better. Will it make that much of a difference with 1,000w? like, will i produce more bud?

Thanks,
Nick

Your main concern will be heat, 1000s are hotter that 600s. The rest is personal choice and type of bud desired.

in an 8x8 4x 600w would kick ass!!!!!!! it would require a fair bit of heat management.

if you are an inexperienced grower start small, you can always add to it if you aren't happy with the results.

600w lights are far more efficient than 1000 watters!!!

The reason your friend said that was probably because X2 1000w would effectivly cover the area without you having to worry about supplimently lighting.

And yes your yeild would increase if your the condition were right. Most people measure their success by grams per watt.

Say you get 1 gram per watt 600x2= about 1200 grams
So if you everthing was right for 1000x2 =About 2000 grams

which is a big difference BUT then you have just the same amount of extra heat to control. So it really comes down the the amount you want to INVEST in the begining and the time you are able to spend in the room to keep up with all those beautiful little girls

people all ways say this, and when you really get down to it, it's not.

Mybe I'm looking at it wrong, and I love my 600w, but if you can pay the bill, keep the grow room under control , then 1000w's would just be the way to go?Just less shit to run.

A 600 watt bulb at 92,000 lumens equals 153 lumens per watt.
A 1000 watt bulb at 140000 lumens equals 140 lumens per watt.
600 watt lights are more efficient than 1000 watters just like ghb said.......

4-600 watt lights in an 8x8 area would be near perfect. Thats 16sqft per light equaling 38 lumens per sqft. Many shoot for 50 lumens per sqft but IMO 38 is plenty sufficient.....

lumens is right, but that's not really the case here, and finding out how he's going to do this setup, would really tell us which lights to run.Plus he my not want the bill from 2000w setup, plus ac running right now

I'm just learning for my self less is more for grow ballast runs, and I love the 1000w size bulbs!.jmo

Was just going to do a 1200w grow my self, then said to my self how long it take's to harvest a crop, plus my wife runs the ac all day.So 2000w and was pushing it for me right now $$, so 1000w, plus my 600w, worked out this summer.

1000w I like to put a few big plants, and 600w run more smaller plants

If you were even considering the difference look at lumen output on the 600 versus 1000 the 600 is something like 95000 lumens for the dixilux. Bulb and the 1000 I's 155000 so if you do 3 1000 versus 5 600's your getting almost the same amount of output for same wattage. The 600 will actually end up producing 50,000 lumens total overall. But if your going for more of a heavy hittin yield then throw 1000's in there. 600's will have to be positioned closer together to get the same effect as a thousand.

Two 1000's hehe.. No but honestly two 600's will out perform a 1000 any day of the week.. More coverage area.. Mix your bulbs.. Do one in red spectrum and the other a blue spectrum.. You'll be thanking me later for that advice

My thinking is he is covering a 8x8 area. 2X1000=2000watts with lots of unlit and unusable space in the area. 4X600=2400 watts with some really nice coverage of the entire space. For me the extra 400 watts is worth it when it comes to the extra coverage and usable floor in the room......then theres light movers...lots of options...
