Right now there is an 18-6 light cycle. What would happen if during the 18 hours on, the lights were turned off for 15 minutes every hour, maybe every hour and a half? Would it stress the plants, stress the lights?

If you had other lighting in the room such as, lamps.. Windows & such. It would not hurt it or effect the plants. When it gets too hot here & they begin having brown outs I turn on the room lights & open windows then just shut off my ballasts for a few hours.. The plants still think it is day time, but are obviously not getting good lumens to grow.

Imagine a cloudy summer day. <3

I would not recommend you have it pitch black for 15mins every hour.

Seems like as long as there's some ambient light in the room, so it doesn't go pitch black, it may not be a bad idea. To fluctuate the temps a little throughout the day.

Do the lights go out for 15 mins every hour in a natural environment?
Do they stay on at the same intensity constantly for 18 hours a day in a natural environment?
