Trying To Convince My Mom To Stop Taking Effexor

She also smokes cigs, but that is for another day...

Anyway, I've come to you all today for a bit of help. I love my mom and I want her to be as healthy and happy as she can be. She's been taking Effexor for years now. Her dosage is something like 170 mg, but I'm not sure. I notice little difference between her on effexor and her off effexor. She seems to be dependent on it. The only thing it does for her is produce that oh-so familiar withdrawal feeling of electric shocks tearing through your brain. I've had many talks with her about this. I'm always very understanding and patient. I never come off as one of those big pharma haters who think other people are weak because they take medication. She acknowledges that it's a problem and it's something she's tried to fix on several occasions. But all of those times, she has been alone in doing so. I think she feels like she's alone in all of this and there's little hope. I've made much progress during our talks. Many of them end up with her in tears and both of us in a loving embrace. During our last talk, I told her that she wasn't alone in this and she had people all around her who loves her that can go through this with her. I think that's what she needed to hear. She said that everytime she tried to stop, something else stressful would happen and she would get back on. She said it just seems to be the easiest way to deal with things. I of course threw her the line, "The easiest way isn't always the best way." I told her that she could have a healthy diet, exercise, and be surrounded by happy people who love her and care about her and that all of those things combined would override any amount of hormonal imbalance or whatever bullshit doctors justify this stuff with.

Obviously the best case scenario would be if I just told my mom to throw away those garbage pills and just smoke some bud. But it seems too fantastical to me.

I'm no expert on pharmaceuticals. That's why I'm asking you guys for advice. Perhaps you may have some advice in the form of some sort of natural substitute for effexor. Thanks in advance.

I am currently getting off the stuff. Effexor worked for me. I took for 2 years, started at 150mg now down to 75. Make sure she tapers off, not just quit.

The withdraws are not too bad if u taper off.
IMO these meds are good for short term. Best of luck. Oh now I smoke the herb and feel great.

A girl I knew is coming off the stuff now, last time I spoke to her she was lowering her dose gradually and didn`t say it was bad or anything, just that it was about time.

And yeah dude can`t you get her to smoke some bud? Make sure its an indica if she has a smoke =)

I was on Effexor EX and all I can say is FUCK that shit! It should be fucking illegal..... Google up the horror stories..... That shit is legal heroin and it changes the person for worse... I was given it for an anxiety problem... He kept upping my dose and finally the anxiety went away, and so did my personality and motivation. It is a dangerous anti-psychotic that in many people's minds should not be on the market. The electrical synapse discharges can be excruciating and scary... you feel pulses snapping through your brain tissue, some of them are sharp and stinging.... Taper off of it as you would any highly addictive substances... Then find a new Dr....

I took an anti psychotic called Geodon, and I was like a fucking zombie on that shit, all I was good for was sleeping all day. Quit the pills for the pot now I feel better than ever!
