True noob question about paper towel

Hi, I put my seeds in a paper towel one and a half days ago, the good news is 8 of 10 have sprouted, but their tap roots seem to be growing in a variety of directions, the ones growing straight I planted with the root down, simple, but I have a few which have a curled "tail", my question is which way to plant them, with the "tail" pointing down, or with the side the root sprouted from down, I assume the tap root has to point down but just wanted some confirmation. After all it would be a terrible waste to lose some at this early stage.

Sometimes that will happen with seeds. Make sure that you plant them with all the tap roots pointing down. When you water, the tap roots will seek the water and grow down. It's not really a big deal. Congratulations on an 80% germination success rate. Good luck with the grow.

Thank you very much. Still almost hoping the other two will wake up and smell the buddha, but it looks less and less likely. I'll be starting a journal about it as I'm growing berry bomb and it seems to be unexplored territory for the most part.

Happy growing!

Yeah sure try to plant them down if you can but the plant will correct itself anyway. Good job on getting 8/10 your doing well. Seedlings are sensitive to rot. Let the root grow out a little in the paper towel (takes only hours) before your plant them so they are strong . Make sure your medium allows for some air for the roots to breath (pearlite ect.). They should sprout in a day or up to a week. If some don't sprout don't be afraid to gently dig up and check the germed seed for progress. If one looks like its stopped growing take the seedling out and put it back into the paper towel to germinate a little longer. Using these methods you wont loose many germed seeds if at all.

Thanks to you both. My soil is all mix so it is meant to be 30% perlite, it has quite a few organic additives, but as it's my first grow I can't exactly sing its praises, but hopefully I will be able to in a few months. Just a quick passing question for anyone that sees this though, if seeds haven't shown signs of roots on day 2, is there much chance of them showing at all, or is it safe to say they're duds? My instinct is to give them 2 more days but like I said, first time grower hehe.

Im hardheaded so it takes me a looonnggg time to give up! try other methods. Give the paper a few more days then try soaking them in a shot glass. Its been known to work

Thanks for the advice, parannoyed. Instead of giving up on them I gave them a fresh home and slept with them under my pillow for a little bit of extra incubation. Either they felt the love or just needed a little bit of extra time and care because number 9 and 10 are just starting to show tiny tap roots today. Gonna leave them in a nice warm spot for the day to laze around and grow.

Didn't expect a 100% germination rate, but hey, I'm not complaining... Gonna need some more buckets though!
