just been out to tend the girls... noticed after watering before lights out, that when lights come back on all the leaves and branches seem to have relaxed and seem quite droopy.... they soon pick up with a coupe of hours light... would i be better watering after lights come back on in future?

also as its 8 days since i first saw signs of flowering i have turned my lamps so the red three u-tubes are pointing directly at the plants

I've heard it's better to water when lights are off or about to go off. Two reasons:
1) Anywhere you leave water on the leafs the drops can act as magnifying glasses and cause little burns
2) Higher heat = quicker evaporation; watering while the lights off will give the plants more time to absorb the water.

Honestly, i try to water my plants as close to lights off (while they are still ON... otherwise you'd be hurting the dark cycle... unless you have some lightproof work room with green lights blah blah) but many times this just doesn't work with my schedule.

Interesting. I have always watered halfway into lights on. I try to always make sure no water or soil is left touching a leaf to prevent that magnification-burn you're talking about. Now you say you "heard". Did you hear from a pretty reliable source? Your method might just save me a little time and effort but I'd like to know how confident you are in the facts of what you "heard". I might just research into this a bit and report my findings here when I'm done.

I always water half way into 12/12 or pretty much whenever the soil is dry when vegging 24/0. Just my way, not necessarily the right way.

Either way I think you're doing a wonderful job. Isn't it amazing how fast they respond to a small drink when they are thirsty? The other day my babies leaves were all sagging and pointing to the floor because I wasn't able to water as I would have liked, I wasn't in town. I gave them some water and less than an hour later all of the leaves aside from the dead yellow fan leaves were pointing up at the light, nice and perky.

Great work brother, keep it up!

My credibility isn't the best, but my "hearing" comes from various threads, and quite a few published guides as well (that are constantly linked and relinked). Anytime you see a thread of someone posting a pic of a plant with water on it under lights you'll get someone warning about burning the leaves.

Now for my second reason... that's just more hypothetical but it makes sense but then again, maybe the plants like the lil bit of extra humidity of the water evaporating and they dont actually need to absorb all the water in the pots? I dont know... still on my first grow.

During the off cycle, plants do not photosynthesise and neither do they convert CO2. Watering with lights off is then doing nothing besides promoting mould.
Your plants will actually produce water during the night rather than oxygen, hence your humidity will rise. Watering them further during their sleep cycle is just going to flood them as they won't drink it.

If you want my advice, water/feed as close to lights ON as you can. Have them girls use their water to the best of their abilities, when they're awake and actually going to drink it.

Also, Magnification burn with CFL's? You sure about that? HID's yes because they emit a shit load of heat. But CFL's will only burn leaves if they're touching, I doubt they're anywhere near hot enough to create burns through water drops.

kinda think your email to attitude will be met with a return email saying that they will not be held to account, although they ensure there seeds are kept in the best possible conditions and any defects there after are due to the way there grown (according to most seedbanks) ... oh and they wont budge if your germinating without a medical grow licence thinggie :-(

but its worth a try i suppose....... (let us know how you do get on mate, i'd be interested to find out)
