Trouble Sleeping + Hot Flashes

Hey guys

My step dad is has been having a lot of issues sleeping throughout the night because he's just unable to shut down plus experiences hot flashes throughout the day/night, he's 81 currently and also a recovering cancer patient.

We've tired sever different things from eatables, oils, joints, cbd pills, etc. After multiple trials and errors we found that the eatable chocolates mixed in with his hot chocolate before going to bed helps him sleep throughout the night but he retains his high when he wakes up in the morning. We ended up lowering the dosage and then found that he couldn't sleep soundly throughout the night.

We also found that sativa strains help with his hot flashes but does not help him fall asleep.

Can anyone suggest an alternative that would help ease the hot flashes and help him sleep?

this may sound "obvious"

but have you considered the following:

- night time meditation routine
- cooler room temperature
- white noise machine
- no electronic devices such as ipads, iphones, tv's (although not sure how much an 81 year old would use these)
- no stimulating books, music tv before bed
- establishing a night time routine
- taking time before bed to get into the bed/sleep process

sometimes, even though the medications are all lined up and successful you still have to work on the outer issues surrounding the problem.
if he does not do meditation routine, i would suggest one, it really helps me with my insomnia, the body works as a whole system so dont just look for the medication to help, look into other areas and senses that are stimulated at night time.

Of course we aren't just trying to solve the issue with just medication. Throughout the day we try to routinely exercise and get his blood pumping. We also try to keep him on a good diet, but he has a love for ice cream that will crave any sweet tooth but it's something he loves so we can't take it away from him. And we also practice mind stimulation through his various interests; in particular history is his go to subject. The problem I found was that he is constantly telling himself that he feels sick or he doesn't feel like it and at his age he is quite stubborn! We have tried white noise machines and we have already set up a bed time routine to get him ready to for bed each night. Medication is just one of the steps we are taking to help alleviate the health problems that are overwhelming him.

You would be surprised how well adapt he is to technology, except for his cellphone which is from the early 00's he uses the ipad for the tv better than me!

Make hash with bubble bags from fresh sugar leaf trim and drink the water. Works wonders.
