From what I read since my first attempt, they like well-draining soil, some N during veg, but only PK during flowering (otherwise the flowers fall off before setting fruit). They also like dry, hot conditions! Typically, the hotter, the spicier the chili will be. They are susceptible to aphids and some kind of black mold if it gets too humid.

I just started germinating a seed left over from last year, and I have a small plant left over from the last grow...I fixed the soil in my greenhouse, so these should do better than last year's.

Does anybody have any favorite pepper blends? Like chutneys, salsas, etc? What are you using your super hot chiles for?

Use to be pretty much stews, salsa, thai and chili for me. A few years ago I started making hot sauce and just kinda got it tuned in last year. Looking forward to the up coming gardening season...

Best thing i can suggest to anyone growing chillis is to use sulfate of potash every 2-3 weeks during flower, it really helps them ripen quicker and gives them the full flavour/heat :) also once you see 1 ripen, pick it and the rest will start to ripen quicker also :D

I cut the peppers in slices, dry them and stick them in olive oil. I also make chili sauce with vinegar, herbs and salt.

I make a cooked sambal and an uncooked sambal with mine. I also make a standard chilli sauce that burns the ring out of anyone haha.

if you want recipes let me know and i'll hook you up :)

Here's a couple of pics of mine at the moment. Apologies for the shit phone pics!
bhut bir and thai bell.JPGcarribean blend.JPGhot bullet.JPG

First pic is of the bhut jolokia, bir jolokia and a thai bell all in small pots. The other smallish one is a hot lemon.

Second pic is of a carribean blend which is supposed to be hot, never tried it before but anything with large chillis like that are usually gay and have no spice, we'll see hey!

Third pic is of a hot bullet or something, i got it from the local hardware store...has a little spice so good for the mrs who doesnt like it too hot!

You can definitely see that the hotter ones are still only small, they took forever to pop the soil and its only been since we've had over 35 degrees centigrade for a few weeks that they've taken off.

Anyway, enjoy!

LOL at the welding mask, it is seriously potent shit though if you're not careful. I was on the phone one time to my father in law and i'd been chopping chillis for a sambal without gloves. I had itchy balls so went the full scratch. Needless to say my father in law was absolutely cacking himself laughing at my screams of agony. Man that lasted for hours too, i had ice packs down my pants for a good 2 hours  i always uses gloves now...ALWAYS!!

And cheers Puff :D i like to have a good asortment of flavour to go with the extreme burn lol

Great tip. Many suggest(I am one)a bit of additional sulphur in the mix are at transplant really helps the heat and fruit set in most hot pepper plants......

Heh, glad to hear that I'm not the only one to do that...my GF found me in the kitchen rubbing ice cream all over my wedding tackle and moaning in relief, she thought it was something else of course...nasty suspicious mind that woman had.

Have you done the 'grind up dried chiles indoors and get nuked when you open the grinder' routine yet? That's always good for a laugh...well, you won't be laughing, but everyone else will be. You will be busy producing enormous amounts of mucous and tears and trying to remember how to breathe...

Oh yeah, if there is a damnfool stupidly painful mistake related to chiles, I've done it. Even ended up with some in my ear canals...you don't want to know, trust me.

One day i thought it would be a great idea to blend them down with a hand held blender instead of chopping them.. i assume i now know what it's like to get pepper sprayed.
