TRIMMING "SUCKER" LEAVES (where, when, how)

Hey everyone been doing lots of LST, scrog, and topping research n Ive been reading and hearing that alot of big growers trim all there "sucker" leaves and biggest fan leaves to promote optimal growth to certain areas.... has anyone ever heard of that any opinion is welcome and any info helps!!

I've heard of it but I never do it because I believe that the leaves are the engines of the plant. They don't suck anything. They are vital to the growth of a healthy plant.

See that's what a lot of people have been saying also that's where I'm torn and trying to get more opinions in the mix

Supposed to be the small leaves in the middle or back part of the plant that recieves the least amount of sunlight they say if u take thoseveral off the energy gets redirected to a cola that was actually going to produce soomthing nice

It works on Tomatoes and It works on Marijuana, You don't remove the large fan leaves, only the lower shoots that come up at the bottom of the plant

that never produce , buds only light airy hairs. But to each their own, I have tried both methods,

Some plants make my mind up for me, not to sound all guru , but as you learn to read your plants you'll grow bigger healthier girls, Another reason to keep the inside of the plants thinned out is to help with air circulation, indoors and outdoors, PM ( POWDERY MILDEW ) sucks. Happy growing.

"SUCKERS" are not leaves - Especially on tomato's

This is a "sucker" on a tomato. See where it forms? This happens on cannabis too. Some are ok, some not.

If you wanna remove lower shoots, go for it. Just leave the big fan leaves alone.

you should alternatively just try it for yourself this time, and next time dont, or do. there is no right way to gro.
its not necessary to remove any plant parts to initiate growth hormone messages to induce lower growth. A simple pinching of new nodes, bending, anything that make the plant feel attacked wil do this. Biggest expression showing is when I left a garbage can lid on the top of a short plant, but not completely covered, it flipped out and grew many bushy branches.
more importantly to your technique is to weave any growth that rises above the screen into the adjacent hole. Do this until each hole in your desired space is filled with one weave, then trim the leaves that are under the screen right to the stalk. next initiate flower with 12/12 until finished. This can be very successful with or without removing leaves of course in the same time frame.

It is absolutely true for plants. Leave the fan leaves but cut the useless bud sites. I know a giant pumpkin grower.... and guess what? They remove all the unwanted “bud sites” pumpkin shoots so all the energy goes into one pumpkin.

Here is a tip for growing. Don't ever remove fan leaves before harvest for several reasons.

1. The fan leaves MAKE AND STORE energy for the plant. The fan leaves are doing a process called photosynthsis, and it is the most important part or task or job the plant does, to make it grow. They make the FOOD, the sugars and carbs needed to grow.

If you remove a FAN leaf, the plant will stop growing taller until it can replace that removed fan leaf.

Removing a healthy fan leaf is a big waste of time..they are rapided replaced, unless you are in the last 2 or 3 weeks of flowering.

2. Even if the fan leaves are yellowing in late bloom I do not remove them until they are almost ready to fall off. The yellowing in the fan leaves at late harvest is the plants metabolism at work. She is transferring all stored energy in the fan leaf to bud production. It is the easiest source of energy she has late in life. Let that leaf do its job.
Leave leaves alone! Removal of healthy leave hacks up a healthy plant. Removing large or shade leaves DOES NOT make plants more productive. This practice DOES NOT supply more light to smaller leaves and growing tips. Plants need all their leaves to produce the maximum amount of chlorophyll and food. Removing leaves slows chlorophyll production, stresses the plant, and stunts its growth. Stress is a growth inhibitor. Remove only dead leaves or leaves that are more than 50 percent damaged.
