Trimming / drying in a humid environment…

Hey all!
I’m in the Adirondacks and for the past few weeks it’s been like Monsoon season here with rain storms and high humidity with no real end in sight.
I have to chop one soon, and was curious if wet trimming would be the right way to speed up drying and lessen the chance of prolonged moisture and/or mold.
Thanks in advance for any insight or pro’s and con’s you can provide.
Happy Growing!

Able to run an AC in a window? That would help a lot. It literally saves my whole harvest sometimes. It’s been up in the mid 80’s RH wise in the past, and the ac brought it down as low as 56% with extraction on.

edit: I’m not sure wet trimming would help. Maybe hang smaller branches instead of the whole plant.. just an idea.. but it will ensure proper airflow for each branch of bud.

Iam in New England ready to chop 12 plants i feel your pain mine is coming into the house with ac. If i hung them in the garage with out ac they would just hang there an rot.

Same issues here, I always hung them in a room with both AC and a dehumidifier. If you can manage the space and keep them about 60f and 60rh you will be fine, and the more you trim off them the faster they will dry. Keep in mind faster is not always better if you are controlling the environment.

I think keeping my temps & rh consistent will be my biggest issue as both metrics fluctuate quite a bit here indoors. My house is remodeled, but the bones are of an 1830’s farmhouse so it “breathes” with the fluctuations of the outdoor weather conditions, unlike a newer home that is more sealed.
I have a spare bedroom that isn’t used so I may try to utilize that space.

I’ll definitely run my AC. Thanks for the reply.

If you mean a quick trim and removing stalk & stem, it will dry quicker.

A (large) de-humidifier in a closed room with the weed works well.

Or fresh freeze it & make hash.

Good luck.
I never thought about making hash. I might need to go down that rabbit hole, as I’ve never made it. Do you know of any good articles or sources where I can start my journey?
Thank you.

Edit:
That doesn’t look hard at all!

I live in a rain forest constant 80-100 percent humidity. I use a dehumidifier in a room (Your spare bedroom) set to 50%. Set higher or lower till you get to an appropriate dry time.

Probably the best videos to start with for a real grasp on hash making are from Frenchy Cannoli. Here’s one of his videos

Dehumidifier? I never wet trim, the buds will dry faster but also tend to not cure as well, you are way more prone to getting a straw/hay smelling weed.

Drying and Curing Cannabis
  1. Trim away excess leaves and large stems after harvesting.
  2. Hang buds upside down in a dry, cool, and dark place with good airflow.
  3. Maintain temperature (60-70°F) and humidity (50-60%) for 7-14 days until stems snap instead of bending.
  4. Trim away remaining leaves and transfer buds to an airtight container.
  5. Store the jar in a cool, dry, and dark place for 2-4 weeks, opening the jar daily to release any excess moisture and promote even curing.

If I can maintain my temps and relative humidity with some sort of consistency I would try it… (And still might).
I do have a portable 60 pint, window-venting dehumidifier at my disposal and will utilize it.
My whole reason for posting this thread is to research and exhaust all options, as well as the opinions of RIU growers before I make a choice.
Thank you for the feedback.
