Trichs 50/50 cloudy/clear, Time Estimate

After reading this, I decided to cut a test bud today. The bad news is that i found a few seeds. The good news is 4 vapes and this weed laid the smack down. I'm going to chop her tomorrow.
On my first grow I found some undeveloped white seeds in my cola. During the drying process they will vanish almost entirely.. Good luck.

Another thing... take a look at your trichs (with your scope) when you cut down your plants.. then take a look, daily, during the dry process..

I have noticed that the trichs continue to turn clear>opaque>amber through the wetter days of drying.. For me, the plants stay a little wet for usually 7 days.. So, if I want the trichs to be day 65 trichs.. I can cut the plant down at day 58..

Take a look for yourself.. different genetics, grow rooms and growers will produce different results.
This is a great piece of advice. I was told this by a great grower before my first harvest. If you wait until you have 10% amber how much amber do you think you'll have after 5-7 more days?

Hank, do you remember the ratios and how they changed? I've never bothered to check after it's all said and done.

Eh.. seeds happen. Sounds like it was a success nonetheless.

I've never really come up with a ratio.. like what trichs to chop for what ratio of trichs..

I just remember that through the wet days of the dry the trichs progressed right along with the plants that i left to grow longer.
When the outter layer of the bud begins to dry it slows..

It's all preference.. I think if more people tried earlier though (and with an open mind) they would find that what they call an "earlier" harvest is higher potency.

I had a sativa hybrid (Killing Fields) that I would grow 1 week past peak potency because the smell and taste improved SO much, and was so good, that I found the trade off worth it.. At 9 wks, the potency was unreal.. no one smoked it without commenting on its power.. At 9 wks it tasted like a haze.. that bite that haze has..
At 10 wks though the fruity smell and thicker moist fruity flavor would come out.. I would often harvest for both. But I leaned towards the 10 wk as that flavor and smell was amazing.
That said.. those who ended up with most of that smoke preferred the 9wk, high potency buds over the 10 wk ruby red grapefruit buds (NYCD in the lineage)..

Sativas often have wider and even multiple harvest windows..
I found that 16 wk sativas had an opening around 12 wks.. close around 14 wks.. opens again around 15-16wks.. It might have even kept going, but, I never took it past 16 wks..

It's all preference.. but if you don't make an honest effort to try out what Dr Paul Mahlberg found.. you are missing out. I promise. Don't let an ego get in the way of better buds!
^(Not directed at anyone specifically) :joint:

Don't stress over the seeds..Use them if viable and if you liked the smoke.Hermaphrodism is the plants natural way to reproduce itself, and in nature it's a good thing if it's easier for a plant to go hermy(because now, its' purpose is complete).I've changed my perspective and i believe that if your stuff is good,no one will give a fuck about those seeds..I had about 20 immature seeds in ~70grams of weed,of my 1st harvest..No one cared..Happy grows ;)

This is also true! Good Luck with your harvest!

Thank you guys. There's a lot of good info in here. After I cut a test bud, I decided to go ahead and chop her down. She's been drying for two days. I'll post weight after she is completely dry. And seeds or no, it's definitely a success that I made it to harvest with my first grow. I have two sativas that should be ready next. They have already been flowering as long as this girl and they don't look half way done yet, but the buds are going to be MUCH larger if I make it to harvest!

I did save about 10 seeds, because I REALLY liked the test bud I smoked and I liked the fact that this plant took right at 8 weeks to flower. Bagseed is a guessing game from what I have read, so I got lucky with this one!

Will do Doc- Drying and curing scares the crap out of me! I guess because that Hermie I pulled early smelled like hay so bad. BUT I didn't trim it properly and it was about 4 weeks early I'm going to dry this one for 4 or 5 days, or until they feel crisp until you squeeze them and the stems don't break. Then I will throw them in the jar and watch the humidity while I burp them.

Good brother.Save the best.If the smoke is fine, why bother ? In nature, the not pollinated female that hermaphrodites gets to survive ;). Drying and curing is NOT hard.Keep an eye on your buds and jar them when the stems crack instead of bent(i did it twice, you will probably get a feeling by experience, like i did).Watch some videos to get a perspective..It's REALLY not had.I was scared as well. You will hear a ''crack'' noise.Get some small accurate hygrometers inside those jars.Long term storing is 55%-60% RH inside the jar and the product is curing.I've hitted 57% on my 2nd try,and i believe you will as well .If you want to even more careful, try to jar them a little earlier, before the stems crack(hang em this way,it's easier imo).Keep in mind that size matters,an solid buds will take longer to dry.Leaving the stems ON and hanging the flowers does help to get a smooth drying process.Just my 0.02 mate..i've summed up anything i can recall this far :)

And of course, hot temperatures and light is NOT your friends, they degrade THC.You need to dry in a cool dark place, with RH near 50%.Keep your buds in the fridge, not the freezer when jarred and stored.Near 4-10 Celcius is fine.

Thanks again guys. I feel better about drying and curing now. I never thought about bud density affecting it and I don't remember reading that before this post' but it makes perfect sense!

Well i do believe that sometimes, you have to think outside of the box..But on the other hand, common sense dictates what's right or wrong ;).Good luck with that mate. You should not follow your gut..just follow these steps :).
