Tray never fully drains

drinking time is not that significant, just allow the tote to flood then drain. a smaller res means you will be changing res more often

Yeah you're right... I thought a 27 gallon reservoir would be big enough... Al b. fuct uses 4x4 trays like me and uses a 33 gallon res, so I guess I should'nt have under-shot it. It's too late now so I'm gonna have to get those digital timers. Is 5 minutes of drinking time not enough though?
You just need enough time for it to flood, and then drain it. They will continue to drink even after it has drained.

I thought the drain nipple (thru-hull) may be sticking above the bottom of the tray...
There are two Holes. One is the Drain and the one connected to the pump, which serves to fill and drain. The second hole is an over flow, which is set to the height you want the tray to fill too. When the tray fills to this level, the water starts to run down the over flow tube so it does not over flow over the tray, when the pump shuts down, the water drains back threw the pump to empty the tray.

So I won't be able to get the timer and stuff til tomorrow, but meanwhile, I lowered my light to a height of 3 feet above the canopy now. I've noticed in the last 24 hours that my leaves are starting to look droopy, which means that they're thirsty right? How is this possible if they're still on the same 3-flood a day cycle that they've been on for a week?

I got ya, LDB...you would think they recessed that spot so the drain is flush with the tray....like a bathtub or sink drain...nice and smooth.

thats confusing..., how could it fill up to the overflow level when it has an open drain as it's filling??? mine have a single hole, the drain and flood hole is the same

The over flow drain which sets the height of the flood...only drains the water when it reaches the top of the plastic stem.
The other fitting is more flush with the bottom of the flood table and is connected to the pump. When turned on, the pump fills the tray until the water reaches the top of the over flow drain and then ..drains back to the reservoir. When the pump turns off, the remaining water in the tray drains back THROUGH the pump.

So you are saying that you only have one hole in your flood and drain tray? There should be two. One is to fill and drain the tray through the PUMP. The second one you put fi0ttings on to a hieght that you want the tray to fill to. This way if you pump stick on, the tray will not over fill and flood your room.
