Transplanting Questions

Its about that time to go from the solo cups into a bigger home and I just have a few questions concerning the transplant for those of you that can help.

This will be the first and maybe final transplant for these girls. seedlings in red cups about to go into 2 gal containers. Right now all seedlings are in FoxFarm Ocean Forest soil.

First question is, would it be a bad idea to transplant half of my girls into coco coir and the other half into more ocean forest? they are all in OF right now but i would like to see the differences between the yields between the 2 mediums and didnt know if that would be a terrible idea.

Second question: I read in the GrowFAQ that when transplanting to plant the plants up to their firs set of leaves to help with height( i have 2 stretchy sativas whos first set of leaves are ~6-8" ofrom the soil and i woul like to lower them a little). My question concerning this is if you were to make cuts in the stem that is going below the surface of the medium would that encourage roots to grow out of that area or would it just be a pain in my ass?

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Fine idea....Just make sure you have proper nutes for growing in coco.

You can transplant them and bury them to the first set of leaves but I would totally stay away from scoring the stem. If grown properly, that little bit of burying wont make a bit of difference.

My advice would be if you do not want to repot again use something larger than 2-gallon pots.
2 Gal containers are plenty big enough to grow very respectable plants. Just go look at my last two journals in my signature. Both grows are in 2 gal containers.

I only transplant into the same medium. But, I do not know if there is a reason that I do that. Just please be sure to water w/B-1
I agree with "where in the hell" for the most part. Here's the deal, a good number of us start seeds or clones in rapid rooters, small cups...whatever; then transplant it into our growing mediums. A small solo cup with FFOF being placed into a 2-5 gal container of coco wont make a bit of difference. The roots will grow out of the lil tiny cup sized soil and into the new medium without skipping a beat so long as they have the required elements.
Now if you were transplanting established plants,,,,say from a 2 gal to a 5 gal container, I would stick to the same medium. But that lil solo cup is really no different than sticking a rapid rooter into hydroton or dirt or perlite or coco. Thats all I was saying.

righteous. thanks for all the help. now for the fun part. any guesses as to which medium wiht yield the most per lady? using complete FF nutrient lineup for both mediums.( gonna be a pain in the ass dealing with 2 mediums using different amounts of nutes in each solution and having to water different amounts, but this is for the sake of bud science damnit.)
