Hey RIU users, just thanking you in advance for any help tricks tips and advice. This is going to be my first time growing, and i am leaning towards the side of auto flowering, because of size restrictions and space issues, i am planning on truing a little dresser into a grow cabinet, the dimensions are 41"x31"x11". i was wondering if this would be enough space to grow at the most 3 auto flowering seeds, i also plan on using foxfarm soil and nutes, i also have an old pc i am going to convert in a grow box so i can start my plants in. only problem is i do not have a clue of what else i would need, money is a restriction to about 300 is my limit to get everything i need.

as i work on the pc and grow cabnit i will throw up some pics. and also if anyone has a alot of experience on auto's what would be a good beginner strian besides lowryder?

for the space i have will a 250watt switchable hps-mh work? or should i just stick to say like 6 cfls and some 2 t5s?

300 is more then enough. Fluro lights will work but its not the best. i would recommend you grow bag seed first and make your mistakes on that. with limited space look into lst (low stress training) once you get a healthy harvest then I would say buy seeds.

only prob with the bag seeds is by the looks of the seed i have they all are no good, all white from what i understand those are male seeds?

Listen to dtack,start with some shity seeds 1s so you wont get to pissed if u do fuck up , but low ryder is a good and easy auto strain to grow

i know with the cfls, and t5s, you wont get heavy yeilds but im not really looking for that im just looking for personal maybe a lil to give a friend.

No. It's true from what Ive seen you want evenly colored dark seeds. But germ them anyways. First grow is just practice anyways. With 300$ you should get a 250+ hps bulb/ballast, mylar (or paint all walls white), good soil and nutes, ph meter, and a couple 12-24 inch fluro for filler lights. Get the rest as you go.

Fluro also lowers potential of the plant. Not just the yield but potency as well.

thanks, but for me i would rather know what seeds i have and i really am intrested in auto's. one for the size/yeild and for it being a short grow cycle.

Hps would be best, just make sure there is a small 3-4 inch fan blowing between the light and the tips. Put your hand on top of the plants if its warm on your hand raise the light.

would hps be able to support the plant for veg and flowering? and for the pc i was thinking about starting the plant in there with like 2 23wat cfl the pc can contain about 2 plants till its time to veg.

white seeds are often quite mature enough and definetly not males.

if it doesnt just squish together when you squeeze it, then its just a seed that lacks that last "paintcoating" (though if you do squeeze too hard and some white stuff comes out, it might have been ready too lol)

dont knock the bagseed man. dumb thing to do. have had some doozies that came from bagseed, wish i still have them.
still do have one strain that originated from 3 bagseedtypes and 3 "bought" types, yummy smokes.

bet you quite a bit, that some of those strains you buy, originally came from bagseed.

alright but with the bag seeds some concerns are since being my first time i really dont wanna waste time on males and being not an auto on avg. how long would bag seed take from seed to harvest, like 12 weeks?

I'm not knocking bag seed, all my grows have been bag seed.

As for wasting time would you rather waste your time and it turn out male but you learn a lot or would you rather kill something you paid for.

As for length from seed to harvest, that depends. Could be up to 24 weeks. But you will learn a shit ton. And if you kill it, it was free. I killed 6 out of 9 plants my first time, only killed 1 second time. Neither time did I harvest (fucked up situations lol) but I've learn more then i could imagine.

Look into lst low stress training. There are tons of write UPS on riu about it. Lst, sog, scrog. All are great for limited space and max yield.

i understand the lst all you do is tie down branches and sog the only one i dont really understand is the scrog.

Scrog, or screen of green is very very simple. Vet basic description. Mount a screen 2x2 holes, a few inches above bucket, as plant grows let it grow through screen a few inches then tuck it under, repeat over and over. Arrange the leaves to where light can hit as many as possible, trim the leaves that don't get light, make sure there is air flow as well. 3 weeks into flower (to my understanding) remove the screen.

what does the screen do?

The screen is used as a type of lst but controls the height exactly.
