Topping soil with wood ash?

Hi, I have heard on various occasions that using wood ash for fertilizer works good but I have never tried it , I have used all organic fertilizers like molasses , epsom salts, ext , just wanted others in sites

If used lightly it would be beneficial as it contains lime and potassium and many trace elements. Too much and the lye and salts are harmful.
I grow my gourd patch over brushpile ashes each year. They like ash, but you can get too much. I have 6 Filipino gourds, and the 2 in the middle where the ashes were thickest were a good ways behind the other 4.
