Topping plant for a Scrog?

Hi all

I am planning of doing a single plant ScrOG of 1.5 x 1.5 ft

Is it alright to top the plant first?

Would it make it easier to fill the screen?

2 cola's or 4 cola's? ( meaning 2 or 4 branches to move around under the screen )

Any one got experiance with this?

Many thanks.

From the cannabis growers bible I read that if you lower the main top below any side branches the plant increases auxin levels in said side branches and they grow as if you topped it but then you can release the bent or trained main top back and it will continue dominant growth. That being said I would think ScrOG would eliminate the need to top, if you're in a hurry you could bypass that little bit of healing/recovery time... but the screen forces you to train such that the side branches will have stimulated growth without chopping off the top!

Thanks guys

i was thinking of topping at the top of the 2nd true node to get 4 tops and Lst them under the screen

because then i can use the top i cut off as a clone

Top at the 4th node. If you're doing a true scrog you're going to want more than 4 tops. I topped my last plant at the 4th node and this was the result.

I dont do journals. I usually wait until the is 5 nodes and cut the 5th node and supercrop at the same time. About a week later I top the tops. About 2 weeks after that I top the tops that I topped and I super crop a final time. About a week after that I flower. Heres a couple pics of a little T5 scrog that I did.

Again like Mr2shim Your plant looks great!

when you say you top then suppercrop, do you mean you cut then supercrop ALL side branches right after?

And after you topped and topped again, you mean you supercrop all of them?

Yeah basically that is it. I dont go crazy with the super-cropping. I will pinch the 4-5 biggest branches but I pinch and bend completely. The purpose of supercropping is it damages the branch which tells the plant to increase auxins (hormones) throughout the plant below the damage thus making them act more dominately and reaching for the light thus increasing branching throughout the plant. If you keep that in mind it will be pretty easy to figure it out.

Thanks alot Bigv!

New to the whole Scrogging, topping, supercropping and Lst

But i do know the basics, have grown 1 plant before, and have got the same type again!

Cheers again!

I top above the 4th node. They would grow an inch or two above the screen then I would pull them back under. Then I would flower when I felt she was big enough.
Just out of curiosity do you fill your screen before you flower?
If not how full is it when you flip the lights?

Why are you doing a scrog in a space 1.5 x 1.5ft. Just grow the plant, the net would not achieve anything.

Got 1 more question if i may

Say i was to top above the 4th node,

How many nodes should i let the plant grow first?

in UncleBens topping sticky he says to leave it till you have 5 nodes, so to top at the 4th node, should i wait till its has around 8 or 9?

thanks

No I don't fill it before flower. Last grow I filled it more than anytime before and I ended up getting some burn on the tops. That was the first day of 12/12

I have been told that a ScrOG is best if you use CFL's

If i am wrong please correct me
ScROG does help with cfl's a lot! But light is light and the more the better. The goal is to get the even canopy so that there is less difference between main branches and side branches. The pic below illustrates best what happens when you have a couple of mains taller than the sides..

notice about 6 to 8 sides that are over a foot shorter than the tops of the mains.

Scrog is going to yield more in any size space. You are correct in saying that scrog is a good method to use when using cfls. It is the only sure-fire method to achieve a completely even canopy which is a must to grow as efficiently as possible and achieve maximum yields with cfl's. You are fairly new here bro but you will find quite often here when you are conducting a useful conversation in a thread somebody will jump in with a single line of bullshit in an attempt to look intelligent but usually ends up looking like an asshole.
